Beginning in July

Intermediate Hand Piecing

If you have ever done any hand piecing you know how peaceful and portable the project can be.  Let Diane show you a few additional techniques that are not at all difficult, and will enlarge the type of blocks you can make.

"Potholder Quilting" photo

Cherry has come up with the perfect project to take on vacation.  You'll precut two different sizes of hexagon, sandwich with batting, then turn the outside edge into a binding.  Do one before breakfast and you have a coaster; join several, and you're on the way to a complete quilt!  The process is easy, and you're finished whenever you say you've made enough!

Fitted Crib Sheet

With two yards of fabric, you can easily make a beautiful crib sheet that will be nicer and  longer lasting than anything you might buy in the store.  Even better, it can be a matching item for the baby quilt you have labored over.  From the corner cut-outs, it is easy to make a little bib to go with the ensemble--we'll cover it all!

Even if you're quite the quilting novice, this project is almost certainly going to go together with no problems at all.  The secret is in the cutting---in this case, using the shop's Accucut machine for speed and accuracy.  Nina will demo the basic construction techniques, followed by time on the Accucut machine.  A template will be provided for anyone who chooses that method of cutting.

Cut and Measure Like a Pro

Even though you may have used rotary tools for years, do you feel as if somehow you’re not as accurate as you’d like to be?  In this hands-on class, Amy will show how to use the tools to achieve all that you’d like: precision cutting of strips and pieces, subcutting  and bundle cutting with appropriate rulers, using the angle lines with confidence, and tackling setting triangles.

Using any set of Bali Pops, a set of forty 2 ½” precut batik strips, you can construct a beautifully nuanced and shaded set of blocks.  With the cutting already done, you will proceed quickly, leaving time for consideration of color placement for best effect.  This class is good for confident beginners and students who want to make a finished quilt in a short time.

Laurie would be the last instructor to suggest that this is a hard project; it is not.  She will help you draft the relevant templates and reveal the tips for hand piecing Y-seams.  Because she will be covering a great deal of ground, prior hand piecing experience is required.  You will complete a gorgeous medallion that is complete in itself as a wall hanging, or use it as the center of a large quilt.
