How to Make a Fabric Flower

These fabric flowers are perfect for little scraps of fabric you have from other projects. Just pick a selection of colors and patterns that work well together. And don't worry about finishing the edges of your fabric pieces. Unfinished will look just fine.

Just follow these easy step-by-step instructions

Step 1. Make two petal templates sized as shown.

Step 2. Cut an array of petals using your templates

This will be the size of your finished flower.

Step 3. Layer your petals, largest at bottom, smaller on top.

You are now ready to sew.

Step 4. Thread your needle with a very long thread. Stitch through the center.
Pull 1/3 of the petals to one side and wind your thread around them several
times. At the center, stitch through from the bottom to the top.

Step 5. Fluff up the petals.

Step 6. Pull another 1/3 of the petals to one side. It is best to select the 1/3
from a different side of the flower than the first set you tied. Stitch through
these just as you did the first set.

Step 7. Fluff these petals up. Repeat Steps 4 & 5 one more time if you
want a very full flower.

Step 8. Sew a decorative button to the top. The button shouldn't be too
large or it will flatten your flower. And not too small or it will be lost in your
petals!

Voila! Here's the finished flower.
