Requirements:
|
|
1 1/4 yards
assorted flannels (top)
|
1/2 yard flannel
(binding)
|
|
1 yard flannel
(back)
|
crib sized
cotton batting
|
The top is composed of
twelve columns. Each column has seven bricks and two
blocks.
1. Cut 84 assorted
colored bricks 3 1/4" x 6". Cut 24 blocks 3 1/4" square.
Larger quilts can be made by enlarging the dimensions of the
bricks and blocks, or by simply adding more and longer
columns.
2. Join 7 bricks and
2 blocks in patterns that vary from column to
column.
3. Once the quilt top
is assembled, sandwich the top, a thin cotton batt and
flannel back. We *spray-basted the layers
together.
4. Quilt, using a
large, machine meandering stitch. It is also possible to
tie, or hand quilt.
5. Bind, using 2 1/2"
flannel strips (6) joined into one continuous binding strip.
Fold strip in half, lengthwise. Sew strip to front of quilt
sandwich, raw edges together, mitering corners. Turn binding
to back side, stitch in place by hand. If using plaid, you
may want to cut bias strips for the binding.
Quilt will shrink a bit and
soften in the wash.
*Spray baste is a spray-on,
temporary adhesive. Much faster than hand basting or pin
basting. Capital Quilts carries what you need.
