What's New at CQ 12/7/17

"What makes things memorable is that they are meaningful, significant, colorful." Joshua Foer

Dear Friends and Fellow Learners,

So was your week memorable? Did you stop now and then to take it all in, to enjoy the moment? I certainly enjoyed those few days of warm weather; I even took a walk over to the Home Depot and Office Depot stores (instead of driving). I expect to savor those memories of warm next week. Another memorable event was accompanying my husband to his cataract surgery on Tuesday. He is doing quite well, thanks, and is amazed at how much clearer his vision is already and how bright colors are. He didn’t realize how much vision he had lost until he got it back again. If you are having trouble focusing, please go see your eye doctor!

A memorable event at Capital Quilts this week was Ginny Brown’s Trunk Show on Sunday. We enjoyed her quilts and were amazed at how accurate the blocks were when she used the arsenal of Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 tools. (An aside: Ginny says Deb Tucker is very insistent that they be called “tools” and corrects anybody who calls them “rulers”…except that Deb Tucker sometimes calls them rulers, too!) She showed us how the tools are used and how units created with them can be combined to form lovely blocks. Which leads us to…

TUCKER UNIVERSITY! Tucker University is a series of 13 classes that will introduce you to 13 of the Studio 180 tools. You’ll learn how to make the basic unit or units and then combine them to make ever more blocks. It is a hands-on class; you’ll sew 4” blocks, and if you use coordinating fabrics, you can sew them together to make a quilt or wall hanging or other project. Ginny, a certified Deb Tucker Studio 180 Instructor, will teach the classes. The price of the class is $375, which I know sounds like a chunk of money, especially at this time of year. Included in the price are 40 hours of instruction (a $400 value) and Deb Tucker Design Sheets, a laminated sheet that is only available to students enrolled in the Tucker University (a $55 value).  The first class meets on Saturday, January 20, 1-5pm. All succeeding classes meet from 1-4pm on the 3rd Saturday of every month. If you cannot attend a particular class, you will still receive the Design Sheet and any handouts that Ginny provides. With the $80 discount, you will not lose out financially by missing a class or two.

Did you miss the Stitch ‘n’ Fold Wreath class last month? Barbara Kascic is teaching it again on Tuesday, December 12, 10-1.

Please do come to our Handi Quilter Demo Day this Saturday, from 11-1. We will be highlighting the new Amara machine and telling you about the next Ruler Club. We will also have information about ProStitcher Premium and the other clubs that are available to you, including the Longarm Club, the ProStitcher Club, and the Art & Stitch Club (new!). Take 15% off any Handi Quilter accessories or tools you purchase on Saturday! Special pricing is available on all machines as well.

Are your scissors and knives feeling a bit dull?  Rod's Sharpening Service will be here this Tuesday!  Drop off scissors, knives, small garden tools by Monday at 6pm.  They'll be sharp as new and ready to pick up Tuesday afternoon.  Please wrap your items in a paper bag or cloth towel, and secure with rubber bands.  Don't forget to enclose your name and phone number, and cash or a check made out to Rod's Sharpening Service as per the pricing chart.

Go ‘n’ Piece,
Alison
