What a wonderful Mother?s Day gift, or a gift for a friend? or for yourself! About the size of a credit card when folded up, these needle books include a small pair of scissors, a needle threader, a place to stick on a needle pad, felt for holding needles and pins, and two pockets for sundries (like bandaids or flat thread holders). That?s a lot in such a small package, and they are a treat to look at, too.

For 2021, the Second Saturday Club will work through Tula Pink's City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks. The book provides instructions for blocks with a finished size of 6 inches, plus 5 layouts of different size quilts and useful commentary on color, techniques, and tools. Each month, group members will create blocks from a section of the book, and later in the year they will assemble them in the quilt design of their choice. Every quilt will be a unique representation of each quilter's individual vision. Along the way, we'll talk about color, piecing techniques, shortcuts, and arranging completed blocks in a satisfying pattern. The City Sampler blocks are approachable for beginning quilters, while intermediate and advanced quilters will enjoy playing with color and trying the Design-Your-Own-Block challenge. City Sampler quilts look great in Tula Pink's fabrics, of course, but work well with many other options: solids, batiks, blenders, monochromatic, scrappy.

Rag Basket
- Nov 27, 2021 01:00 pm

Rag bowls have been made since the beginning of time, it seems. They have found some form of bowls that are wrapped into a coil in many archeological digs, that go back for centuries. In more recent history, rag bowls were made in Appalachia along with rag rugs that were known to hold up over time. Rag bowls are sturdy, versatile and fun to make. This class will provide instructions for making a small bowl and hopefully have you leaving with your bowl and all you need to make more. Be careful - it is addictive, but if you are a quilter and/or sewing "nut", you know all about that!!! One very good thing is that it allows you to use up scraps of material that you might otherwise just have sitting around the house.
