Complete Course of Quilting via Zoom
- Jan 27, 2021 06:30 pm

This 10-week quilting course teaches everything you need to know to start making your own quilts. This course covers the basics: getting to know your sewing machine, rotary cutting, fabric selection, and a variety of techniques for machine piecing quilt blocks. You make a sampler quilt and learn to sandwich, quilt, and bind your masterpiece. This is the perfect opportunity to explore the quilter's art, which is both ancient and modern! Finished size of sampler quilt: 42 in. x 53 in. Know before you sign up: The instruction is very much hands-on. Most classes are a combination of discussion, demonstration, and practice. You must have a sewing machine in good working order that you can bring to class. If your machine has not been serviced in the past year, please have it cleaned and oiled. Capital Quilts' machine technicians can clean and oil most brands of sewing machines. Allow two weeks for servicing.

For 2021, the Second Saturday Club will work through Tula Pink's City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks. The book provides instructions for blocks with a finished size of 6 inches, plus 5 layouts of different size quilts and useful commentary on color, techniques, and tools. Each month, group members will create blocks from a section of the book, and later in the year they will assemble them in the quilt design of their choice. Every quilt will be a unique representation of each quilter's individual vision. Along the way, we'll talk about color, piecing techniques, shortcuts, and arranging completed blocks in a satisfying pattern. The City Sampler blocks are approachable for beginning quilters, while intermediate and advanced quilters will enjoy playing with color and trying the Design-Your-Own-Block challenge. City Sampler quilts look great in Tula Pink's fabrics, of course, but work well with many other options: solids, batiks, blenders, monochromatic, scrappy.

Lots of Dots via ZOOM
- Feb 20, 2021 01:00 pm

This lovely quilt provides a good study in color and value. There are four small blocks that make up each larger block. Each ring is made using four different values of a color. The center is made using two lighter values of the ring color. You will also learn how to create the pieced ring. The original pattern has you piecing each part of the arch by sewing blocks together. Julie will show you how to paper piece the arch, a technique she finds easier than sewing blocks together. The instructions are for a quilt with nine circles. The finished quilt is about 70? square.
