Winter weather sometimes means having to think about whether or not to open the shop. This can be a difficult decision; because of the mountains to the west and the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic to our east, both of which have a sometimes crazy influence on our weather, and because of the variety of snow-removal jurisdictions, conditions can vary widely within a few miles.
We will do our best to maintain normal business hours. We do not automatically follow school or government office decisions. We will use our best judgment, based on weather reports and any other data to hand, and may choose to close altogether, or open late and/or close early. Our primary concern is for your safety and for the safety of the Capital Quilts staff members.
We encourage you to exercise good judgment regarding whether or not to drive during iffy weather. Please remember that the parking lot and sidewalks may not have been cleared here at the shop and may be slippery. This is not something that we have any control over.
We will make every effort to make a decision regarding the alteration of business hours not less than 2 hours before our normal opening time. This information will be posted on our website and our Facebook page and be added to the message on our answering machine. If we have decided to open at the normal time, that will be noted as well.
If a class, workshop, or event is cancelled due to weather, you will be notified by email. Please make sure we have an up-to-date email address for you! We will make every effort to reschedule the class, workshop, or event; if this is not possible, you will be refunded the full amount of the registration fee in the same manner in which you paid for the class, workshop, or event.
If you are the teacher of the cancelled class, workshop, or event, you will receive an email or phone call advising you of the change.
If you are scheduled to rent a quilting machine on a day that we are closed because of weather, we will reschedule your rental. You will be advised of the shop closure by email; again, please make sure we have an up-to-date email address for you.
