Quilt Appraisal with Phyllis Hatcher
All appraisers certified by the American Quilter’s Society have been tested on their knowledge of fabric dates and construction techniques, on their ability to recognize patterns and regional influences, and on their awareness of values. AQS certified appraisers are sworn to the Code of Ethical Practices. Phyllis is qualified to appraise both antique and new quilts, tops, blocks, and quilted wearable art in all traditional, contemporary, and innovative styles. She is a member of the Professional Association of Appraisers- Quilted Textiles.
Why Appraise?
- To establish a replacement value for insurance purposes before a loss (stolen, lost, destroyed, or damaged)
- To meet insurance company requirements for a "Fine Arts Floater" including transit and display
- To establish value for donation, gift, or estate purposes as required by the IRS
- To obtain a descriptive written record for the family
- To mail your quilt and/or meet requirements for entrance in a textile competition
- To determine fair market value for the sale of quilts
- To accompany a quilt to be given as a gift
A confidential written appraisal is completed for each quilt and a photo is taken for identification. Appraisals take approximately 30 minutes. Following the event, you will receive a professionally written document via USPS.
