Relax on Friday nights with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos.

  • September 6: Susan Thomson reports on a show of quilts by Maria Shell at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont. Maria Shell is an incredible improv quilter from Alaska and author of a book on improvisational patchwork.
  • October 7: Last January, Samantha Reizes inspired us with her presentation on Tivaevae quilts. She's coming back to guide us through our own attempts to fold, snip, and stitch the Tivaevae way! Have scissors and fabric on hand.
  • November 4: In a rut with your binding? See demos of two alternative binding techniques. Joy Dorman will explain how to make two-sided binding, and Betsy Kulamer will demonstrate a machine binding with a flange.
  • December 2: Call them pre-cuts, jelly rolls, strip sets, rolie-polies, roll ups, they are fun to work with! SherriJoyce King will take us on a tour of what can be done with these seductive bundles of fabric strips.
  • January 13: Kaffe Fassett’s fabric and quilt designs are everywhere quilters are. Karey Herriman talks about his influence throughout the world of textiles and discusses his aesthetic and genius.
  • February 3, 2023: Let’s celebrate the rich history of African quilts and fabrics! Deb Moore will survey African quilt traditions, and Carolyn Goshen will talk about African textiles, fresh from a trip to The Gambia.
  • March 3, 2023: Temperature quilts are a hot topic in using quilts as a visual journal. Join Janice Wheeler as she explores the highs and lows of this cool trend in quilting.

Note: you must download the Zoom app/client, and you will need a camera/webcam, microphone, and speakers, as well as an Internet connection. On the day of Sew Together, you’ll receive an email with a link to the Zoom meeting. Please confirm that Capital Quilts has your current email address and phone number.
