Designing the Hexagon - an EPP Class

English Paper Piecing (EPP) is a portable handwork technique relying on thread basting and hand sewing.  Learn how to create your own stunning, kaleidoscopic quilt design and stitch it completely by hand using traditional EPP techniques.  We will look at various ways to break up and recombine hexagonal forms (subdividing a hexagon with “jewels”, triangles, and rhombuses).  We’ll discuss the impact of scale and color selection and the effect of fussy cutting.  By the end of class, you will be well on your way to creating a paper-pieced hexagonal motif suitable for hand or machine applique to a range of items, such as pillows, bags, and placemats.  You will have the basic skills needed to tackle commercial patterns for EPP and know the key considerations to create your own designs.
