Riviera Handbag
This fat quarter friendly bag has a zipper top and lots of pockets inside and out, is sized just right, and fits comfortably on the shoulder. The pattern we’ll use has great color pictures and is easy to follow.
Supply List for RIVIERA HANDBAG (all items are available at Capital Quilts)
PATTERN (Required) – “Riviera Handbag” from Pink Sand Beach Designs
FABRIC (I recommend avoiding directional fabrics.)
½ yd – Fabric 1 – Bag front/back lower pocket, inside pockets
¾ yd – Fabric 2 – Outside pocket accent/lining, inside lining
½ yd – Fabric 3 – Bag top edge front/back, inside pocket accent
½ yd – Fabric 4 – Straps, bottom, top zipper flap
INTERFACING
1 yd – Pellon #987F Fusible Fleece
¾ yd – Pellon # 809 Décor bond fusible
1/8 yd – Pellon #71F Peltex single side fusible
NOTIONS
1 – 14” long all-purpose polyester zipper
Jeans/Denim (90/14) machine needle (note: I used a regular (80/12) needle with my Janome 8900 and had no problem. This machine has a strong motor, however.)
OPTIONAL
1 – Zipper pull, or ¼ yard 3/8” ribbon, or make your own pull from leftover fabric.
OTHER NECESSITIES
Sewing machine in good working order (don’t forget your pedal and power cord, and bring extra needles)
Thread to match fabrics
Rotary cutter and mat
24” acrylic clear ruler
Basic sewing supplies: pins (strong enough to go through layers of fabric, interfacing, and fleece), snips, quilt marker (I like the SewLine markers, either air or water erasable, but anything with a fine tip will work.)
HOMEWORK: Before coming to class, please obtain the pattern and do Step 1 at home (the cutting of the fabric and interfacings). Use a pencil to label the interfacings with the size you cut as you cut them; this will save you all kinds of time in class. If you have any questions about this, contact me or come see me at the shop, Tuesday through Saturday. Doing the cutting at home will give us a better chance of finishing the bag in class.
I look forward to seeing you in class!
