Power of Nine: A Block of the Month

THE POWER OF NINE
Block of the Month for Capital Quilts with Kim Jalette

1st Saturday of the month from 9-10 AM

Join us as we discover The Power of Nine! This graphic quilt is fairly simple to make, but allows us to talk about color and value. Class is a lecture format, and each month we will cover 2 blocks. You do the sewing at home. The following month, we will share our blocks and encourage each other.
 
NOTE: Simplified block construction directions will be given out each month along with coloring diagrams for that month's blocks. These are not included in the pattern, but are provided to BOM participants only.

FABRIC: Important - you do not have to use the same color families as in the class sample/quilt pattern! You may want to wait until after the first session to pick your fabrics. Think about your favorite colors and use those instead, or create an entirely different look with a dark background instead of white. Rearrange the blocks or the rows in a different order. Make this YOUR quilt.
 
Fabric requirements (slightly different yardage from pattern, but using same colors):
Yellow fabric - dark: 5/8 yd
Yellow fabric - light: 1/2 yd
Orange fabric - dark: 5/8 yd
Orange fabric - light: 1/4 yd
Blue fabric - dark: 5/8 yd
Blue fabric - medium: 1/4 yd
Blue fabric - light: 1/2 yd
Green fabric - dark: 5/8 yd
Green fabric - light: 1/4 yd
White fabric: 2-1/2 yds
Black& white dot: 1-1/2 yd
 
I always buy a bit extra, just to make sure there's enough in case I want to re-cut anything!
 
Purchase batting, backing and binding per pattern requirements. We will talk about some different ways to make blocks, and may cover specialty rulers or notions, but you don't need to have anything except normal rotary cutting tools to make this quilt.
