What's New at CQ 06/07/18

"To create something from nothing is one of the greatest feelings, and I would - I don't know, I wish it upon everybody. It's heaven." Prince

Dear Friends of Fabric,

Come see us at the Annapolis Quilt Guild show this weekend, June 9 and 10, at the Annapolis High School, 2700 Riva Road. We enjoy doing these shows and look forward to seeing old friends and new. Anything special you’d like us to bring to the show? Respond to this email with your suggestions!

It’s not too late to join the summer sewing challenge, “Do You See What I See?” Come to the shop to get a rules sheet and pick your inspirational picture. We have three categories with prizes in each: All Quilters, Kids Under 18, and CQ Teachers/Staff. Finished quilts are just 20” x 20”, due on July 22nd. You can do this and have a whale of a good time! There is a $5 registration fee. Top prize for All Quilters and Teachers/Staff is a $50 Capital Quilts Gift Card; top prize for Kids Under 18 is a $30 CQ Gift Card.

Carpal Tunnel got you down? Arthritis in your hand make cutting next to impossible? I have a solution. Get GO!ing to the shop on June 22 and 23 and attend one of three AccuQuilt GO! sessions to find out how this marvelous cutting system can make your sewing life ‘sew’ much easier! There is a morning session each day at 10:30, and Friday afternoon there is a session at 2:30. There will be giveaways! Just $5 will reserve your seat, and if you buy an AccuQuilt machine or die on June 22 or 23, I will deduct $5 from the price of the item. Register today!

One week from today is the first of six Sew Days! classes. Kat is teaching the first class next Thursday evening, June 14th at 6:30. The project is the Last Minute Table Runner, perfect for beginner sewists and anybody else who wants to make a fun and fast runner. Only $5! On Thursday, the 21st, join us for the second class, the Stow and Go Tote: same time, same place, new teacher – Betsy Kulamer. Fabric kits are available for both classes.

Go 'n' Piece,
Alison

NEW AND NOTEWORTHY

I have found a wonderful new quilt board source! TNT Quilt Boards are designed by quilter Tracy Kennedy and built by her husband Tim in Massachusetts. The boards are made of wood and covered with batting and fabric. The biggest one is made to fit over your ironing board to give you a lot larger surface for ironing; it’s 24” x 66”. The smallest one is 12” square and spins and is perfect for keeping by your sewing machine for quick seam presses and paper-piecing. There are three other sizes, one on adjustable-height legs, the other two made for traveling. Also available, although I don’t have any in stock, are metal racks, in two sizes, large and mini, that you can put your board on top of and have storage underneath. These are the sturdiest boards I’ve ever seen, beautifully made and covered with a lightweight canvas. Take a look next time you are in the shop!

Books are discounted every day at Capital Quilts!

If you're doing any traveling, you'll want to pick up a copy of the Quilters' Travel Companion & Crafters Guide.  Now in its 15th edition, this is the best authority for quilt and craft shops, shows, and guilds in North America.  MSRP $21.95, CQ price only $18.66.

Quilted Cats and Dogs by Chris Malone is a chance to stitch a fun and easy cat or dog collection of quilts and accent pieces that can be personalized for any pet lover. Mix and match the 13 projects for a unique but inspiring look. This is the perfect book to learn or teach fusible applique. MSRP$17.99, CQ price only $12.74.

CLASSES

June 8 is Sandwich Night. Make an appointment with Carol to layer and baste your quilt top, back, and batting. There is an appointment available at 6 and another at 7. If you or someone else is going to do the quilting on a longarm machine, you do not need to sandwich the quilt.

There are 3 seats left in the Brimfield block class on Sunday, June 10, at 2pm. The class is being taught by the block’s designers, Kim Martucci and Nisha Bouri. This is an English Paper Piecing class, suitable for all skill levels.

Celebrate summer with Hilary Hastie in her Butterflies class. The class meets twice, on June 12 and June 19, 10:30-12:30.

In the afternoon of June 12, take Back to Front with Anne Brill. Suitable for confident beginners and up, you pick out your backing first, then use that to select fabrics for the front. You will learn how to make the traditional Churn Dash block. 1:30-4:30.

Barbara Kascic is teaching her popular Needles and Thread class on Thursday at 10:30. In just one hour she will teach you all you need to know to keep your stitches happy.

The first Sew Days! class meets on Thursday, June 14 at 6:30! We’ll be making an easy table runner. The Last Minute Table Runner class is suitable for beginners and fun for all skill levels! Kat Martinez is teaching.

If you want to know more about the Handi Quilter ProStitcher, or if you want to use ours during your rental time, take Getting Started: the HQ ProStitcher on Friday, June 15, at 10:30. Sign up soon: there are just 2 seats left.

BLUE BAG BONANZA

The June prize is a star pack of four fat quarters of Hoffman blue batiks and a luggage tag from AccuQuilt.

To be entered in each month’s drawing, bring your Capital Quilts Blue Bag with you when you shop. Make sure you show it to the staffer at the register! Upon completion of your sales transaction, your name will be put in the jar for the drawing at the end of the month. The more you shop, the more chances you have to win. Don’t have a Blue Bag? Purchase one at the shop, by phone, or online for just $4.99. We save all of the entries for the year, and at the end of the year we draw a Grand Prize Winner from all the entries.

Sign up for our 5th Saturday Club! Purchase your Gold Tag for $10 and be able to participate in special sales on each of the four 5th Saturdays on 2018. The next one is at the end of June.

Our thanks to everybody who shops at Capital Quilts and who participates in the Blue Bag Bonanza.
