Dear Summer Sewers,
Row by Row “Sew Musical” is underway. Our row is called “The Kennedy Center” and we have both kits and patterns. As you visit different quilt shops this summer, take a look around. If they have something or do something you think you’d like to see at Capital Quilts, let me know! I am always open to new ideas.
Since 2011, Row by Row Experience has engaged tens of thousands of quilters all over the world with the fun of collecting free row patterns while visiting local quilt shops, then creating themed quilts projects using the rows they collect. Visit quilt shops between today and September 4. Each shop will give you a free pattern for its row; many will also offer kits for sale, which will include the pattern. If you are so inclined, create a quilt using at least 8 rows from 8 different shops. Quilt it, bind it, and label it, and take it to a participating quilt shop. If you are the first to submit a quilt, you will win a prize of 25 fat quarters! If one of the rows in your quilt is from that shop, the shop will give you a second prize. See complete program details at www.rowbyrowexperience.com.
Saturday, June 30, is the 2nd Fifth Saturday of the year. If you don’t already have a Capital Quilts Blue Bag and a Fifth Saturday golden ticket, buy yours before the 30th and join in the fun. Fifth Saturday Club members will receive 20% off all regularly priced items in the shop, and 25% off fabric if you buy all that is on the bolt (an “End of Bolt Sale”). Sewing machines, books, and clearance items are not included because we discount them every day. AccuQuilt items are also not included, by the rules set forth by AccuQuilt. The shops along our street are having a Sidewalk Sale that day as well.
Our AccuQuilt event last weekend was well received! If you were unable to attend, don’t despair! We’ll be having more events, and you can always ask for a demonstration anytime in the shop. We are also having classes: the first is on July 10. Called “Two by Two”, Debra Ball will begin at the beginning and explain how to use these fabulous machines. You’ll use yours to cut out a quilt, and in the second session, you’ll make that quilt. Skill level: beginner. If you haven’t purchased an AccuQuilt GO! machine yet, you can use the shop machine.
Be sure to go to the AccuQuilt website and sign up for their newsletter. Stay up to date on the latest and greatest as well as specials being offered. Capital Quilts will offer the same specials…and you won’t have to pay shipping! Support your local quilt shop! I can order anything from AccuQuilt.
SEW DAYS: Learn how to make an apron out of a tea towel tonight, June 28 at 6:30! The Tea Towel Apron class is suitable for all skill levels, even someone with no sewing experience who would like to learn. Don’t have a sewing machine? No worries, you can use one of ours. Sign up online or in the shop: it’s only $5!
If you love paper piecing or would like to learn how, take “Bright Log Cabin” on Friday, June 29, 12:30-4:30. It’s a great stash buster! Once you have the technique down, you can make blocks in spare moments of time; eventually you’ll have enough to put together in a quilt.
Sunday is July 1, and that means the beginning of a new quarter full of great classes. Check the Classes tab and calendar on our website to see what is coming up. The quarterly newsletter is in the works, but you can sign up now if you see something you like online.
Even though we're already receiving entries for the summer sewing challenge, “Do You See What I See?”, it isn't too late for you to join in the fun! Come to the shop to get a rules sheet and pick your inspirational picture. We have three categories with prizes in each: All Quilters, Kids Under 18, and CQ Teachers/Staff. Finished quilts are just 20” x 20”, due on July 22nd. You can do this and have a whale of a good time! There is a $5 registration fee. Top prize for All Quilters and Teachers/Staff is a $50 Capital Quilts Gift Card; top prize for Kids Under 18 is a $30 CQ Gift Card.
AccuQuilt Club members: don’t forget that we are meeting on June 30 at 10:30.
Capital Quilts will be closed on Wednesday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.

COMMUNITY CORNER
We're looking for donations of fun, bright, child friendly prints for our upcoming CQ Cares Pillowcase Workshop. We are in need of yardage, as most of our already donated "kid fabric" is in FQs, which are inappropriate for pillowcase sewing. We will have tak home kits available for those unable to make the workshop.
We’ve received a request for kennel quilts from a shelter helping pets affected by the fires in Colorado and from a shelter in Florida. Small Kennel Quilt kits are available in the shop; just ask for one!
BLUE BAG BONANZA
The June prize is a star pack of four fat quarters of Hoffman blue batiks and a luggage tag from AccuQuilt.
To be entered in each month’s drawing, bring your Capital Quilts Blue Bag with you when you shop. Make sure you show it to the staffer at the register! Upon completion of your sales transaction, your name will be put in the jar for the drawing at the end of the month. The more you shop, the more chances you have to win. Don’t have a Blue Bag? Purchase one at the shop, by phone, or online for just $4.99. We save all of the entries for the year, and at the end of the year we draw a Grand Prize Winner from all the entries.
Sign up for our 5th Saturday Club! Purchase your Gold Tag for $10 and be able to participate in special sales on each of the four 5th Saturdays on 2018. The next one is at the end of June. The Golden Tickets will not be available for purchase on the day of the 5th Saturday Sale.
Our thanks to everybody who shops at Capital Quilts and who participates in the Blue Bag Bonanza.
