Dear Friendly Friends,
I have been listening to the encomiums about George H. W. Bush the last couple of days, and I watched his funeral at the National Cathedral on Wednesday. Everybody speaks about his strength of character, his love of laughter, his dedication to his family, his nation, the world, and the Office of the Presidency of the USA. It has been an inspiring few days. I would hope that as a nation we might strive to live up to his ideals, to be a kinder, gentler nation and to be a thousand points of light. It all starts with us, with the individual, in our homes and our communities.
You can make a difference in the life of a child on Christmas! Bring your new, unwrapped toys and place them in the TOYS FOR TOTS box near the front door. On behalf of the children, thank you!
Laurel Burch lovers: a line of batiks has arrived that are glorious. Check them out on the “Just Arrived” shelf as you enter the shop, or look online. Some pictures are below. Nina is putting together a great strip set and charm pack for us.
Come to our Christmas Elves’ Ornament Workshop on Sunday, 2-5. We’ll have stations set up in the classroom. Pick out a kit when you sign in for the class and sit with our elves to learn how to make it. Additional kits can be purchased for $5. Make as many as you’d like. Buy some to make at home!
Don’t forget to register for the book-signing and lecture with Carol Dean Jones on Saturday, December 15 at noon. The event is free, but we want to make sure we have enough books on hand. I started reading the first book in the series, Tie Died, last night; it’s light reading and very engaging. The basic story line is that a lady of some years is prevailed upon by her daughter to move to a retirement community. She finds she actually enjoys living there and is settling in when one of her neighbors is murdered. Now it’s a who-done-it!
If you would like your family and friends to do their holiday shopping here at Capital Quilts and get you something you really want, fill out one of our Wish List forms. Let your shoppers know that it’s here! There is, of course, the Capital Quilts Gift Card.
All of the clubs we had in 2018 will continue to meet in 2019, with a couple of additions. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the clubs and what happens in a club meeting, we invite you to attend a regular club meeting at no charge in December. Here are the dates and times:
Dec. 8: 2nd Saturday Club meets 9-10:30. Wool & Hand Embroidery Club meets 12-2. Dec. 9: EPP (English Paper Piecing) Club meets 12-2. Art & Stitch Club meets 12:30-2:30. Dec. 10: The Hand-Piecers meet from 1-3. Dec. 11: Improv Club meets 6:30-8:30. Dec. 15: Janome Club meets from 10:30-12:30. Dec. 22: AccuQuilt Club meets from 10:30-12:30.
The two new clubs are 1st Saturday Club and AccuQuilt GO! Club. Please visit the 2nd Saturday Club meeting on the 8th to learn more about the 1st Saturday Club; the meetings will be very similar, but focusing on a different project. The GO! Club will meet on the 4th Sunday of each month in 2019, from 1-3. Because that is so close to this Christmas, we are going to have a “demo” meeting on Sunday, January 6, at 1. Liz will talk about the club and do a little demo to give you an idea of what the club will be like. She is also open to your ideas of what you’d like to do during club meetings!
I hope you’ll come to one or more of the club meetings. Clubs are lots of fun, and you will make new friends while you are learning new techniques and sharing tips, tricks, and projects. They meet once a month and are reasonably priced at just $65 for the entire year.
Go ‘n’ piece, Alison
