Rod’s Sharpening Service will be here on Wednesday, April 17 to sharpen scissors, knives, and small gardening tools (less than 12”). Scissors include fabric, pinking, and household types. Beauty salon scissors cost $25. Everything else is $7 each. Rod says, “For your safety and ours, all items should be packaged or wrapped securely with rubber bands or packing tape in a dish or bath towel, pillowcase, padded envelope, or box (NO PLASTIC BAGS). Attach or include your name, address, and telephone number and include payment.” All items must be in the shop by Tuesday, April 16. Pick up your sharpened things after 2pm on April 17.
We are now carrying the Westalee quilting templates and accessories. Look for the display near the classroom doors. If there is something you want that I don’t have, please let me know and I will order it for you.
Would you like to be able to do machine embroidery at home but don’t want to pay $10,000 or more for a big quilting machine? Let me introduce you to Janome’s Skyline S9. It is a sewing and embroidery machine. It sews with the accuracy you expect from a Janome and has all the sewing functions you want, right at your fingertips: needle up/down, reverse, thread tie-off, scissors, speed control. It also has Automatic Presser Foot Lift, my personal favorite. The S9 is also a wonderful embroidery machine, with built-in WiFi with apps that allow you to transfer, fine-tune, and monitor your stitching; 250 built-in embroidery designs and 10 monogramming fonts; and a full editing suite right on the full-color 5” LED touchscreen. It is smaller than the big machines, and easier to take to classes and retreats. It comes with 3 hoops, the largest being 6.7” x 7.9”. Buy your Skyline S9 now through May 31, and you will get a discount PLUS $400 worth of Free Bonus Accessories (you get to choose what you want) PLUS a Free New Owner Lesson and on-going support (priceless) PLUS a one-year Free Membership in our Janome Club (a $65 value). MSRP is $3,999; call us for more information!
Did you know… you can take a private lesson at Capital Quilts on most any sewing or quilting related topic? This includes longarm machine lessons, sewing machine lessons, serger lessons, technique lessons, and infinitely more. The fee is $13.50 for 15 minutes, with a one hour minimum.
Did you know… you can shop at Capital Quilts around the clock from anywhere that has internet service? In your pjs and slippers? With a glass of wine or hot chocolate in your hand? We have a web shop: https://www.capitalquilts.com/shop.htm Check it out! Charles, one of our machine technicians, is moving out of the area. We will miss him greatly! This means that Capital Quilts is once again in need of a machine tech, especially one who is familiar with sergers. If you know of anybody, please send him or her our way!
Go ‘n’ piece, Alison

April 29 – Pillowcases: Ryan’s Case For Smiles distributes our pillowcases to children’s centers and hospitals in the Washington/Baltimore area, brightening many lives. Skill level: confident beginner and up.
Small Kennel Quilts: We are always accepting small kennel quilts, and we always have free kits available for you to take home to make and return to us. They are a perfect little project for practicing your quilting skills! We receive requests from shelters for completed kennel quilts on a frequent basis, and there are a lot coming in now from the flooded parts of the Midwest.
