Dear Friends of Thread,
Announcing the new Aurifil Club! We invite you to purchase a thread box containing one large spool of white Aurifil 50 wt. thread; usually this box costs $22.99, but we offer it to you for only $15.99. With the box you will receive an Aurifil Club Card. Each month, come into the shop and purchase one large spool of Aurifil thread, in the color of your choice, at a 15% discount. We will punch out the name of the month on your Club Card. The promotion is good for 12 months. We only have 30 boxes to sell, so, as they say on TV, don’t delay, get yours today!
Next weekend, April 26-28, The Friendship Star Quilt Guild is having its Oh My Stars Quilt Show at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg. Over 250 quilts will be on display in the Home Arts building. There will be raffles of the guild’s raffle quilt, baskets, and a Featherweight sewing machine. Enjoy the Silent Auction, demonstrations, and children’s activities. Participate in the Service Projects Sit and Sew. Shop at the Members Boutique, but save some money for Capital Quilts: we are vending at the show! We are also introducing a pair of young designers, known online as Little Bunny Quilts. They will be doing a trunk show in the Demo area, and we will have a quilt or two of theirs in our booth along with their patterns.
We are now carrying the Westalee quilting templates and accessories. Look for the display in the Janome machine department. If there is something you want that I don’t have, please let me know and I will order it for you.
Quilting Tip: Have you seen the One Block Wonder Design Tool? You can forget carting around mirrors to preview what your quilt blocks might look like. Simply snap a photo, upload it, and the Design Helper will preview the blocks for you! You'll be able to set the triangle size, group by color, rotate blocks, and manually rearrange the blocks. Visit http://oneblockwonder.com/design-helper/ to try it out for yourself.
Capital Quilts is once again in need of a machine technician, especially one who is familiar with sergers. If you know of anybody, or if you have a mechanically-minded spouse who would like to learn a new trade, please send him or her our way! It’s a great retirement job: once you’ve been to training, you will work just 4-8 hours most weeks.
Don’t forget that Capital Quilts is closed on Sunday, April 21.
Go ‘n’ Piece, Alison

Days for Girls: In conjunction with two girls from Northern Virginia working on their Senior Charity Project, we are currently accepting donations of fabric to make bags for the Days for Girls kits. Please avoid any depictions of persons, animals, faces, insects (butterflies are OK), guns, camo, and any light-colored fabrics that will show stains more easily. Geometric prints and florals are preferred. There is a tub near the front of the store that you can place your donations into. Please visit www.daysforgirls.org to learn more about this empowering program. NEW AND NOTEWORTHY:
Benartex has sent us "Home Grown" by Nancy Halvorsen. The combination of florals, dots and tiny flowers is so fresh and fun! $11.99 per yard.
We've replenished our stock of Peppered Cottons from Studio E! Peppered Cottons are a timeless classic and a favorite for quilters. These are yarn-dyed shot cottons, meaning the weft and warp are two different colors, giving each color a unique look. These shot cottons are a heavier weight that others on the market and thus have earned their standing as a 'favorite'. $10.50 per yard.
Are low volume fabrics your thing? We've put together "Textish", 10 different text prints, and "Low Volume Colors", 20 low volume prints that feature colors. Both are available in both 2-1/2" strip sets ($43.99) or 5" charm squares ($10.99).
"Ephemera" is another shop-curated collection, and it features a lot of Tim Holtz farbics along with other "found object" type prints. Strip sets, $43.99 each and charm squares, $10.99 each.
