What's New at CQ 7/11/19

"The creative process is not like a situation where you get struck by a single lightning bolt. You have ongoing discoveries, and there's ongoing creative revelations. Yes, it's really helpful to be marching toward a specific destination, but, along the way, you must allow yourself room for your ideas to blossom, take root, and grow." Carlton Cuse

Dear Friends of Capital Quilts,

We have rescheduled tonight's reception for Diane Garrison, our current artist-on-display. The reception and Gallery Talk will now be held Sunday, July 21 at 2:00pm. Come hear Diane talk about her quilts and her journey in the quilting world. Free, but please register so that I know about how much fruit and cheese and chocolate to provide!

Please welcome Jim Stubblefield to Capital Quilts! Jim is our newest machine technician. He will have two appointments this Saturday, at 1 and 3, and the following Saturday, July 20, at 1 and 3. Thereafter he will be on Tuesday afternoons, 1-5. Jim can service only Janome, Elna, and Necchi machines. He likes working on sergers, so if your serger hasn’t been cleaned in a while, I recommend Jim to you.

Rod’s Sharpening Service will be here on Wednesday, July 17 in the morning. Please bring your scissors, pinking shears, knives, and small gardening tools (under 12”) to the shop on or before Tuesday, July 16. Bundle your items with rubber bands or packing tape in a towel, basket, box, or other wrap that won’t allow the sharp blades to protrude and hurt anybody (no plastic bags). Include your name and phone number and your payment inside the bundle. Beauty salon shears are $25.00 each; everything else is $7 each. Cash or check, please.

Scott Fortunoff, owner of the Jaftex fabric companies, wrote a wonderful post recently about the ways you as a customer can help your favorite quilt shops, or any shop you enjoy and want to help remain in business. Click here to read the post.

The By Annie Trunk Show has arrived! Find lots of nifty bags, totes, and organizers on the table as soon as you walk in the front door. Patterns are on their way; meanwhile, you can place a special order and we will save it or them for you.

Kathy Barden has joined our teaching staff and will be teaching a year-long series of bag and tote classes, one each month. Let’s call it Bag of the Month! The first class is an easy one to get you started on basic skills: The Basic Tote, on Thursday, August 8, 1:30-3:30. She will teach other classes as well, such as “Happy Handles” on Wednesday, July 24, 1-3. This is a class on round handles that work well with many bags; you can substitute them for handles in a pattern you have, or to one you design on your own.

Are you part of a group that needs a meeting space? Capital Quilts is happy to rent you its classroom for just $25 an hour. It’s a great space for sewing bees, small sewing, knitting or other craft groups, and kids’ sewing parties. Our staff is on hand to assist you. You can bring food and drink (just please keep it in the classroom!).

The Janome Summer Scratch Off Savings Giveaway has begun! Now through July 31, 2019, come into the shop and enjoy a demo of any Janome machine. Receive a Scratch Off Card and scratch off the disc and instantly win one of 22 prizes.

And if you like what you tried, it’s a great time to buy a new Janome sewing machine or serger. Pay what Capital Quilts employees pay; get the same discount they enjoy. Come talk to us about the Employee Pricing Event and test drive some machines! You won’t get a better price for a fabulous machine at any other time of the year. Come in before July 31.

Handi Quilter is partnering with us to have a nifty promotion right now. Buy a new machine and get a Capital Quilts Bounce Back Gift Certificate in the amount of $200, $300, or $400, depending on which machine you purchase. Spend the Gift Certificate on anything you like in the shop. HQ’s fine print: may not be combined with other HQ offers, discounts, or promotions. Valid for one-time use only (in other words, you have to spend it all in one shopping spree!). Bounce Back Gift Certificates have no cash value are not redeemable for cash, and will not be replaced if lost or stolen. CQ’s fine print: Bounce Back Gift Certificate valid day after purchase date to six months from purchase date.

Thank you for shopping at Capital Quilts!

Go ‘n’ piece,
Alison
