Dear Dear Friends With a Questing Spirit,

Quilters’ Quest is here! It begins tomorrow! We are very excited about it here in the shop, and we are working hard turning the shop into Narnia, making kits, and generally getting ready to welcome you on your Book Tour. Your Passport Package is available on www.quiltersquest.org. All the information you need to have a great trip to all the shops is in there. If you are riding on one of the shops’ buses, you do not need to download this Package; we will take care of it for you.

There is still room on our Quilters’ Quest Bus for a two-day tour of all 9 shops on Monday and Tuesday, October 14 and 15. Monday is Columbus Day; perhaps you have the day off. What better way to spend it than enjoying quilt shops? We’ll feed you lunch both days, have coffee and donuts in the morning, and send along a “bus mom” to take care of the details and make sure you have a wonderful time. At the end of the two days, you will receive a Discount Card for 15% off your purchases at all participating participating shops during the next year and a tote bag with some goodies inside. Hop on the bus and leave the driving to us!

If you only have one day available to ride the Quest bus, we can accommodate you either day. The cost is $90 and includes coffee and donuts in the morning, lunch, snacks, and loads of fun. You will not receive the tote bag or Discount Card unless you visit the remaining shops on your own.

As a reminder, the Crazy Cousin in Fredericksburg is unable to participate this year due to fire damage from a recent fire in the restaurant next door. The Scrappy Apple will have Crazy Cousin’s “Quest Cuts” fabric to give out to Questers. They are free, but please consider dropping a few dollars in the donation bucket for the Spotsylvania Fire Department who did a great job of putting the fire out before it reached the quilt shop.

Have you taken a picture of yourself here at Capital Quilts for the 2019 Scott Sent Me Challenge? You can find the complete rules at https://scottfortunoff.com/2019/08/12scottsentme2019/ In short, you take a selfie at as many shops as you can through 11/30/19 and post them on Instagram and/or Facebook with the hashtag #ScottSentMe2019. There are prizes to be won, up to $1000 in credit to spend in your favorite quilt shops. All winners will also get some pre-cut fabric from Scott Fortunoff. Scott’s companies include Free Spirit, Henry Glass, StudioE, Blank, and A.E. Nathan Co. We have set up a picture-taking station here in the shop under the “Kaffe” sign near the cutting table. Make sure you get the sign that says “Scott Sent Me” in your picture! Please send the picture to kat@capitalquilts.com as well, because there are prizes for shop to win, too.

Janome Club members: don’t forget that your meeting has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 26 at 1.

Thank you for supporting Capital Quilts. There are lots of places and ways to shop these days, and I appreciate your choosing to shop at Capital Quilts to keep our wonderful community here for all to enjoy.

Go ‘n’ piece,
Alison

CLASSES
Register for classes online, in the shop, or by calling 301-527-0598. Please register early; we need at least 3 people to make a class happen. If the class is cancelled by Capital quilts, you will get a refund of the class fee. If you let us know you can’t make it at least 8 days before the class, you will get a store credit of the class fee. Cancellations 7 or fewer days before the class are not refundable, but you can try to find someone to take your place. If there is a waiting list, we’ll try to help with that. The Supply List for each class may be found on our website at the lower left-hand corner of the class page. You may have to scroll down to find it.

No classes or club meetings will be held during Quilters’ Quest, 10/11- 10/20.

A Rag Basket would make a nifty gift, and don’t you know the holidays are soon upon us. Take Lois Sumser’s class on Monday, October 21, 2:30-5:30 to learn how to make these interesting baskets.

Another nice gift is the Sew Together Bag. The clutch-sized bag has 7 pockets, and 3 of them are zippered. Phyliss Jaffe will show you how to make it on Tuesday, October 22, 10:30-1:30, with a follow up session the following Tuesday.

October 22 is also Sandwich Day. Five 1-hour appointments are available beginning at 1pm. Bring your quilt top, backing, and batting and basting spray or pins and we’ll have your quilt sandwiched within the hour.

Braided quilts are lovely to behold and easy to do using 2½” strips. Deb Ball will guide you in Braid in a Day on Wednesday, October 23, 10:15-12:15.

Barbara Kascic will deliver her popular Needles & Thread Lecture on Thursday, October 24, 2-3. Find out what needles work well with different kinds of thread and how using the wrong thread with the wrong needle can affect your stitch.

Hungry for a new quilt pattern? Take Muffin Tops with Kim Jalette on Friday, October 25, 10:30-1:30. You’ll use the 12” Clammy ruler and learn how easy it is to sew a gentle curve.

The October Sit-n-Sew is on Friday, October 25, 5-9. Bring your own project and sewing equipment and some food to share with your old and new friends. Capital Quilts will provide beverages.

CAPITAL QUILTS CARES: All CQ Cares events are free, and we provide fabric and patterns. Please bring your sewing machine, thread, and supplies. Please register for each event online, by phone at 301-527-0598, or in the shop so that we know how many to expect. Thank you!

Quilts of Valor: The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. Join Sue Moats on Friday, October 25th at 2pm to make a Quilt of Valor.

Placemats for Iona Center: Iona Center, located in Washington, DC, supports people as they experience the challenges and opportunities of aging through counseling, the arts, and providing meals, among other things. Join us on Monday, October 28, 11-1 to make placemats to make meal trays cheerful.

Small Kennel Quilts: We are always accepting small kennel quilts, and we always have free basic kits available for you to take home to make and return to us. (The quilts are great stash-busters, too!) They are a perfect little project for practicing your quilting skills. We receive requests from shelters for completed kennel quilts on a frequent basis.
