Dear Delightful Shoppers,

Slurp down your morning coffee and come on over to Capital Quilts! We are having a glorious BIG sale! The sale will go on for the next 6 weeks or so. Prizes will be awarded, there will be Trivia Day and Treasure Hunt Day and Family Day and we are just going to have lots of fun with this. The BIG Sale starts today, October 31, at 10 am. Stop in and see what it is all about!

We will be vending at Everybody’s Quilt Guild Show November 1-3. The show is in a new location this year: Pleasant Valley Community Fire Hall, 2030 Pleasant Valley Road, Westminster, MD 21158. The show is open 12-6 on Friday, Saturday 10-5, and 10-4 on Sunday. See you there!

Local designer Heather Kojan is presenting a lecture/trunk show here on Saturday, Nov. 2, 12-1. Come hear her inspirational ideas on what to do with UFOs, the odd block, and that fabric you can’t believe you bought.

On Monday, Nov. 4, Heather is teaching a class here at the shop called “Five Easy Geeses”. She will show you five ways to make Flying Geese blocks and you will put your blocks together to make a quilt top. The class is from 11-3. Look for the model in the classroom! Sign up here!

You are invited to Sip & Stitch! Join us on Thursday, November 7 from 6-8:30 to enjoy a glass of wine and light hors d’oeurves and make a Wine Bag. We’ll have kits ready for you to sew up. Bring your machine or use one of ours. We have room for 12 sewists. $45 includes wine, light fare, and a Wine Bag kit. Staff will be on hand to show you how to make the Wine Bag. The party is being catered by Botanero, a wine and small plates restaurant in Rockville.

Thank you for supporting Capital Quilts. There are lots of places and ways to shop these days, and I appreciate your choosing to shop at Capital Quilts to keep our wonderful community here for all to enjoy.

Go ‘n’ piece,
Alison

CLASSES
Register for classes online, in the shop, or by calling 301-527-0598. Please register early; we need at least 3 people to make a class happen. If the class is cancelled by Capital quilts, you will get a refund of the class fee. If you let us know you can’t make it at least 8 days before the class, you will get a store credit of the class fee. Cancellations 7 or fewer days before the class are not refundable, but you can try to find someone to take your place. If there is a waiting list, we’ll try to help with that. The Supply List for each class may be found on our website at the lower left-hand corner of the class page. You may have to scroll down to find it.

A Strata Quilt is created by using multiple strips of fabric in a color family to create the fabric that is used to make a simple block. In Julie’s Strata Quilt, Julie Taylor will talk about color theory and guide you through the creative process. The class meets on Saturday, November 2, 2-5.

The lovely Showering Stars Table Runner will embellish any table. Give it as a gift during the upcoming holidays. Cathy Sullivan will teach you the primary blocks, flying geese and 9-patches, and help you assemble them into this table runner. Sunday, November 3, 12-4.

In the skill-builder class 5 Easy Geeses, designer Heather Kojan will teach you how to make perfect flying geese five different ways. And yes, they are all easy! Put them together to make a lovely quilt. Monday, November 4, 11-3.

Make a Woven Snowflake to hang on the tree or use as a gift decoration. Deb Ball will show you how on Tuesday, November 5, 10:30-12:30. A kit is included with your class fee, and more will be available for sale.

Kim Jalette loves English Paper Piecing and would love to share this technique with you. Join her Stars of Savannah class on Tuesday, November 5, 2-4. Skill level: beginner and up.

The Simply Sixteen class scheduled for November 5 has been cancelled because I sold the machine! There is another one on a truck headed our way, so stay tuned.

Love the Mondo Bag? Kathy Barden will help you make one on Thursday, November 7, 10:30-1.

Join us on Thursday, November 7 from 6-8:30  for Sip 'n' Stitch! Enjoy a glass of wine and light hors d’oeurves and make a Wine Bag. We’ll have kits ready for you to sew up. Help make goodie bags On Friday, Nivember 8 at 11am to give to the children after their surgery. Please bring a child-sized toothbrush and/or a travelsize toothpaste to include in the bag.

Small Kennel Quilts:
We are always accepting small kennel quilts, and we always have free basic kits available for you to take home to make and return to us. (The quilts are great stash-busters, too!) They are a perfect little project for practicing your quilting skills. We receive requests from shelters for completed kennel quilts on a frequent basis. The fires in California have already generated requests.

BLUE BAG BONANZA

October’s prize is a pattern from Denise Olson called “Beach Glass” and a Moda charm pack by Robin Pickens called “Sweet Pea & Lily”.

To be entered in each month’s drawing, bring your Capital Quilts Blue Bag with you when you shop. Make sure you show it to the staffer at the register! Upon completion of your sales transaction, your name will be put in the jar for the drawing at the end of the month. The more you shop, the more chances you have to win. Don’t have a Blue Bag? Purchase one at the shop, by phone, or online for just $4.99. We save all of the entries for the year, and at the end of the year we draw a Grand Prize Winner from all the entries.

Our thanks to everybody who shops at Capital Quilts and who participates in the Blue Bag Bonanza.
