Dear Friends,
Our usual weekly newsletter will return next week.
Historically, Capital Quilts has avoided commenting on global issues. However, in light of recent events, we now affirmatively state: Black Lives Matter
This email started as a paragraph in our weekly newsletter, letting our customers know that Capital Quilts strives to be an inclusive business and that ALL customers are welcome, regardless of age, race, nationality, gender identity, or sexual orientation. But it is not enough to say that we value diversity or to speak about inclusion in general terms. It is important that we be clear in our words and actions and that we listen attentively.
We cannot hope to resolve a problem unless and until we first acknowledge that the problem exists and know what contributed to its cause.
Conscious actions lead to definable progress. That is why we commit to stand with our Black communities, to take meaningful action, to be held accountable, and to say what we must until it is no longer necessary: Black Lives Matter.
We are committed to creating a community that treats everyone equally and with dignity. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or racism and we hold ourselves and our operations accountable to these standards of basic respect and human decency. If you have experienced any of this type of negative attitude or behavior in the shop, please bring it to our attention so that we may take steps to correct it.
We will be kind. We will listen. We will educate ourselves. We can ‐ and must ‐ do better.
