What's New at CQ 5/17/22

Dear Friends,

I hope you'll come out to the Faithful Circle Quilt Guild's "Garden Party" Quilt Show!

It is being held at the First Presbyterian Church of Howard County; 9325 Presbyterian Circle, Columbia, MD 21045.

Open to the public hours are:

     Thursday, May 19 – 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
     Friday, May 20 – 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
     Saturday, May 21 – 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Their beautiful, award winning, hand-appliqued and machine pieced quilt, “Starlit Garden”, is queen sized. It was designed by George Hubble, assembled by Faithful Circle Quilters guild members and machine quilted by Maria O’Haver. Chances are $1 each or six for $5. The winner will be drawn at the close of the show on May 21, 2022.

Happy Sewing!

Kasuri from Kaufmann is a gorgeous collection of navy and indigo batiks.

Ellipse from Alison Glass has arrived!  This collection has delightful details: scarab, abacus, and stripes.  The colors are just as saturated as you remember.

Classes

Ruler work templates can decorate quilt borders with attractive curved designs. But how to make fixed-size shapes fit into any-sized borders? And what to do about corners?
Betsy will guide you.  This virtual class starts Tuesday, May 24th at 6:30pm.

On Friday, June 6 at 6:30pm, join fellow quilters for a virtual "Sew Together" quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters.

There are so many possibilities for the Liberty Table Runner!  Explore them in class on Saturday, June 4th at 11:30am.

Are you afraid to make color choices? Do you grab the hand of the nearest shop clerk to help you pick out fabric? Do you hope and pray for kits so you don't have to make the choices yourself?  We can fix that! Join Pam for two sessions on gaining color confidence!
You will gain confidence as you train your eye to see color and read the mood of fabrics as she walks you through a series of play-like exercises. Class starts Saturday, June 11.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We will also have kits available at the shop, please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those that want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free pillowcase kits available!  We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Care for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness.  Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule.

We also have free small kennel quilts available.  These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster.  To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills.  To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
