What's New at CQ 6/14/22

Dear Friends,

There is a new exhibit in the Gallery!  Several months ago, I challenged my staff to either use an ombre fabric in a project or join the Free Spirit Coat Challenge.  While only one Free Spirit Coat was completed, it is GORGEOUS (one more is on its way)!  See it and all the ombre projects in the gallery through the end of the month.

Our Kid's Camp is coming up July 18-22!  Intended for kids 8-13, each child will make a pillowcase, a drawstring backpack, a "buggy" novelty pillow, and a hand embroidery project.  Registration is now open.

Thanks to all of you who came out to see the recent quilt shows we vended at.  We had a blast, and hope you did, too!

Happy Sewing!

Let freedom ring with patriotic prints from Whistler Studios. This red, white and blue-tiful collection is your solution to decorating and sewing for Labor Day, July 4, Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Sew for service members, summer picnics and Quilts of Valor. Use the Americana ombre print for stunning results!

Adding a burst of technicolor life to her already vibrant catalog, Tula Pink presents Tiny Beasts, a playful reimagining of animals you might find in your backyard and beyond. Using a rich rainbow of bright exhibits featuring ladybugs, foxes, deer, raccoons, squirrels and bears, she has filled her latest collection with lots of activity and movement -- all in Tula's signature style.

Sea Maidens brings mythology to life with stunning mermaids, bubbles, and scales. This collection highlights the soft coral and bright orange with the aquatic blue and green prints.

Have you already taken the Getting Starter: HQ Longarm class, and you're ready to move on?  Prostitcher Premuim lets you take advantage of thousands of computerized stitch patterns!  On June 29th at noon, learn how to customize Edge-to-Edge (E2E) designs on your computer to fit any quilt size and transfer the design to the ProStitcher on the longarm for accurate stitch out. You must already have taken Getting Started on Long Arm class before registering for this.  The ProStitcher Premium Simulator is not currently supported on Apple / MAC systems and does not run on tablets, so you must have access to a current Windows based computer.

There are many ways to deal with the bulk of machine quilting. Learn some of the creative methods quilters have come up with to solve this problem. The right prep, products and techniques will get you quilting those larger quilts. Join Adele Scott via Zoom on Saturday, 6/25 to learn NINE ways to tackle quilting big quilts on your domestic machine.

Tired of sewing alone? Join fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. On July 1 at 6:30pm, Fresh from an invitation-only retreat with Victoria Findlay Wolfe, Jan Wisor will talk about her favorite quilt and fabric designer, and will have lots of modern, elegant examples of VFW’s work and insights into VFW’s process. She’ll be fresh from a VFW workshop with tales to tell!

Join Sue Moats and our in-store Quilts of Valor group to work on a quilt on Saturday, July 9th.  These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. Help us support our vets by making a Quilt of Valor. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy! The workshop is divided into two shifts; space is available in the afternoon.

We will also have kits available at the shop, please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those that want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free pillowcase kits available!  We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Care for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness.  Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule.

We also have free small kennel quilts available.  These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster.  To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills.  To use your stash, visit
