What's New at CQ 3/21/2023

Dear Friends,
We're getting ready for the first of THREE shows over the next 5 weeks ! WOO-HOO! Please see the schedule near the bottom of this email for complete details. We hope you can make some of them. For me, they're a great way to look at quilting trends and get inspiration. And maybe do a little shopping.

Even with the hectic show schedule, we still have some amazing classes coming up. I spoke with two potential new instructors last week, and hope to get their classes on the schedule soon.

Happy Sewing!

Neutrals are all the rage, and Texture Graphix by Jason Yenter features terrific textures -- scratches, mesh, tweed, etc. --  in shades of black, grays, charcoal, and white.

Chong-a Hwang's Kyoto Gardens from Timeless Treasures is a dream come true for all you lovers of Asian inspired fabric! The glorious panel is accompanied by a large floral, butterflies, cranes, ginko leaves, more geisha, and a host of yummy blenders.

From Dear Stella, we have Let's Get Wild. This sweet collection celebrates wilderness and what you might find there: rhinos, zebras, butterflies, crocodiles, and flamingos all make an appearance. There's even a safari kitty! The collection rounds out with a couple of florals, some foliage, and an animal skin print.

Do you have some free time on Monday, April 3rd?  The Quilts of Valor group is meeting to work on these quilts that are awarded to veterans and others touched by war.  Please register, as space is limited.

Back by popular demand, Elizabeth is teaching her Wonky Log Cabin on Thursday, April 6 at 5:30pm.  Bring your scraps and create a quilt full of what you love!  Resizing the quilt is easy; simply add (or remove) blocks!

Sew Together via Zoom allows you to join with like minded quilters to stitch, talk, and share.  Each month, a featured speaker will discuss a technique, designer, or method of quilting, all from the comfort of your own home.  On Friday, April 7th, Harry Fox will trace his explorations of art quilts from photographs, including plenty of examples and descriptions of techniques.

Hang out with Kat and Get it Done on Saturday, April 8.  Work on your own project at your own table, while still in the cheerful company of other quilters.

Because Quilts will be here on Sunday, April 16th to work on quilts for the Interfaith Women's Shelter.  These quilts are treasured by the women who receive them.  All fabric is provided, but we do ask that you register.  These workshops are generally filled with camaraderie and laughter.

The next Complete Course of Quilting starts Thursday, April 20th! Whether you're new to quilting or want to brush up on all the basics, this class is for you!

The Vela Quilt class (via Zoom) on April 29th will walk students through the steps of assembling the lap size of the Vela quilt, assembling two of the four quadrants in class. This class is excellent for someone who is an advanced beginner and has assembled a couple of quilts, all the way up to experienced quilters!

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have placemat kits available at the shop, please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free pillowcase kits available!  We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness.  Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available.  These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster.  To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills.  To use your stash, visit
