What's New at CQ 4/4/23

Dear Friends,

Lancaster was a blast, and we're looking forward to the Ocean Waves Quilt Guild Show next week!

I am also thrilled to announce that Handi Quilter Education is back at CQ!  We have teamed up with Handi Quilter to bring you two days of classes that will enrich your longarming experience. See the classes section below for details!

Happy Sewing!

Products

Inspired by oceans and marine life, Katy Hackney skillfully created Sea and Shore for Windham Fabrics. This collection is an ode to life on the coast with long billed curlews, weathered sailboats, thriving coral reef, well-worn lobster pots and faraway lighthouses in a serene shoreline palette.

Mel Rowlands designed this collection for Studie e Fabrics. It includes a 10-inch block pattern in a 24-inch repeat with sweet images of woodland animals with plenty of personality. The main pattern combines a variety of woodland creatures accented by trees, mushrooms, leaves, butterflies and insects. Coordinates include mushrooms, small flowers, foxes, cool raccoons with sunglasses and cameras, a geometric, butterflies, birds, birdhouses and a camera print to have a little “selfie” fun. The color palette is primarily a range of teals and corals along with accents of orange, lime and grayed browns.

Little Things from Riley Blake is the cutest baby collection ever! It features a menagerie of animals and their adorable yet unexpected little friends. Each animal pairing comes with a sweet message like, “hello, I’m new” and”you make me happy.” Two panels and 15 coordinates means that you can make all the baby things!

This luscious fat quarter bundle from Robert Kaufman includes a panel! Available in either the Camellia colorway accented with gold metallic or the Lapis colorway accented with silver metallic, each bundle contains the panel and fifteen gorgeous companion prints.  You can't go wrong, no matter which color you choose.

Classes

Sew Together via Zoom allows you to join with like minded quilters to stitch, talk, and share.  Each month, a featured speaker will discuss a technique, designer, or method of quilting, all from the comfort of your own home.  On Friday, April 7th, Harry Fox will trace his explorations of art quilts from photographs, including plenty of examples and descriptions of techniques.

Hang out with Kat and Get it Done on Saturday, April 8.  Work on your own project at your own table, while still in the cheerful company of other quilters.

The next Complete Course of Quilting starts Thursday, April 20th! Whether you're new to quilting or want to brush up on all the basics, this class is for you!

The Vela Quilt class (via Zoom) on April 29th will walk students through the steps of assembling the lap size of the Vela quilt, assembling two of the four quadrants in class. This class is excellent for someone who is an advanced beginner and has assembled a couple of quilts, all the way up to experienced quilters!

Rod's Sharpening Service sharpens knives of all types (even serrated!), household and utility scissors, beauty salon and barbers' shears, and most garden tools. Their precision sharpening system ensures the correct angle for your knife, thus extending the life of the blade--it will cut just like new. They can also repair some defects such as chipped blades or bent tips (additional fees may apply).

Fabric shears, pinking shears, household scissors:  $7.00
Beauty salon shears:  $25.00
Any type of knife:  $7.00
Small garden tools (less than 12 inches):  $7.00

For everyone's safety, all items must be packaged/wrapped securely with rubber bands or packing tape securing the item in a towel, pillowcase, padded envelope, or box.  Attach your name, address, phone number, and cash or check payable to Rod's Sharpening Service.

Items should be dropped off at the shop no later than 5pm on Tuesday, April 25th.

Make a jacket that fits you perfectly!
This fun and productive two-day Tabula Rasa jacket workshop with Rae Cumbie is scheduled for May 6 & 7.  It's open to new Tabula Rasa stitchers as well as students who have already made their mock up. New students will learn how to adjust a paper pattern and make a mock-up for fitting and design purposes. Experienced students can work on any Tabula Rasa variation or complex jacket. Everyone will sketch, choose fabrics, determine what support is needed inside, and begin constructing their own Tabula Rasa Jacket. You will go home with a personalized jacket pattern, mock-ups, and jackets or variations well under way, and you will be full of ideas for future projects!

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have placemat kits available at the shop, please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free pillowcase kits available!  We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness.  Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available.  These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster.  To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills.  To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
