What's New at CQ 5/9/2023

Dear Friends,

The Handi Quilter longarm education event is THIS WEEK!  Join National Handi Quilter Educator Cynthia Gill for the following classes:

     Thursday, 5/11/23, 10-4: Exploring Pro-Stitcher in Simulation

Friday, 5/12/23, 10-1: Rule Your Quilts

Friday, 5/12/23, 2-5: Beyond Basic Background Fills

This past Saturday, we had a reception for the 2022 Second Saturday members who have Sedona (Some Kind of Wonderful) quilts hanging in the Gallery right now.  The variety of color choices and layouts is amazing!  Do come in and see them all.

Speaking of Second Saturday Club, the group has finished working on the Bright Lights/Big City, and will be starting Some Kind of Wonderful's Posh Snowball shortly.  Mid-year signups are available!

Happy Sewing!

Products

From Patty Basemi for Art Gallery Fabrics, we have Tails & Threads. This collection tells the story of a cat and mouse becoming friends as they sew a lovely garden, looking ahead to growing and living better times together. Visit their whimsical garden through sweet drawings of ditsy florals and joyful mice sewing away.

Did I hear someone ask for more zippers?  We've gotten in lots of new ones!

Katherine Quinn's third collection, Land and Sea, embraces far off lands surrounded by vast open ocean. Whales migrate through the sea passing ships and remote islands under bright skies and soaring sea birds. With a palette of bottle green, deep turquoise, storm cloud grey and a touch of rusty coral, this nautical collection will really float your boat!

We got an order from Laser Cut Quilts!

The Stag Kit from Laser Cut Quilts is back in stock. This pre-fused, pre-cut kit is wildly popular.

"Sew in Love" is a delightful reminder to rejoice in life (especially when it involves quilting!).

We also got in several of Madi Mastings' "Composed" Patterns. Bring the beauty of the garden home with this vibrant and alluring "Composed" butterfly! This wonderful pattern pack includes both the pattern and the pre-printed FlexiFuse template! This will cut out the step of tracing the pattern by hand; simply iron the fabric to the fusible, and cut out the pieces.

If you like fused applique, you're going to LOVE this 17" x 24" Precision Fusing Mat. The specialized non-slip material prevents movement of fabrics and mat so everything stays in place, and the see-through design provides great visibility.

The Press Perfect Hot Ruler is here! A unique non-slip surface helps hold fabric in place, offering better management of small hems or when working with delicate fabrics. The nylon fiberboard is heat resistant and can be pressed with a dry or steam iron. The Hot Ruler is 2 ½" x 10".

Handi Quilter: Rule(r) Your Quilts
Friday, May 12, 10-1

If you love precision and consistency in your quilting, you will love using design rulers and templates! These handy tools assist in placing designs accurately and stitching them out precisely. Learn to handle rulers and templates safely with the ruler base and Sure Foot, and how to achieve accuracy with the markings.

This class is suitable for all longarm users.

HANDI QUILTER LONGARM EDUCATION DAYS

Handi Quilter: Beyond Basic Background Fills
Friday, May 12, 2-5

Interested in building a library of designs you can use with confidence? In this workshop, you’ll identify shapes you already love to quilt, learn how to create pathways to connect designs, and explore using different threads to really make your background fill quilting pop.

Suitable for all longarm users.

Cindy Grisdela's Free Motion Quilting Class (for domestic machines) on May 22nd is now available for registration!  She assured me that ANYONE can free motion, as long as they have basic knowledge of their machine and can drop the feed dogs.  More experienced quilters will enjoy tips, tricks, and new design options.

Join Debra in making Metro Rings, a beautiful double wedding ring quilt starting on Friday, 6/2. Sew Kind of Wonderful makes it easy using 2 1/2 inch strips and the QCR tool.

Quilting with rulers is a wonderful way to add curved designs to your quilting repertoire. Bored with your walking foot and intimated by full-on free motion quilting? Ruler work is an ideal compromise to create precise yet interesting stitching on your quilts using your domestic machine. In this 5-week class starting June 8, you will make a 9-block sampler of ruler work designs. The class will cover setting up your machine for ruler work, testing tension, and getting started. Each week you’ll make one or two blocks with practice fabric during class; between each class you’ll reproduce the blocks with your sampler fabric. At the end, you’ll learn a quilt-as-you-go method for joining the blocks together.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have placemat kits available at the shop, please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free pillowcase kits available!  We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness.  Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available.  These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster.  To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills.  To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
