Products

Designed by Katy Hackney for Windham Fabrics, Secret Garden explores the flora and fauna of an enchanted garden behind an old stone wall. With a nod to the botanical and a pleasing palette of lavender, beechnut, ivory and stone, this elegant collection will make classic quilts and charming garments.

Spring has sprung!  Welcome the season with these five lovely prints from Flower Garden from Oasis Fabrics.

Stephanie Peterson Jones brings us another adorable fabric collection from P&B Textiles! Under-the-sea creatures are the focus of a unique alphabet panel that any child would enjoy! A clear, color palette and fun motifs are on display in each of these happy prints! Pieced, fish blocks swim around the border in the free quilt pattern... you'll want to make one for each of the special little ones in your life!

From Dear Stella, we have Panda-monium -- a delightful collection featuring sometimes-sleepy pandas. With its limited color palette and adorable pandas, we think this would work in most nurseries and toddler rooms.

We know that some of you love our scrap bags and End of Bolt Bonanza deals.  We've just unearthed a bunch of remnants you might be interested in -- sometimes they're leftovers from quilt backs or other model making, sometimes they are "mistake" cuts or cuts made to avoid damage in the fabric. They are all GREAT deals!

Remember those cork bags we got in?  Well, we just got a shipment of smaller zipped pouches in cork! These are perfectly sized for sewing notions, cosmetics, medications, or what have you. Remember that cork is naturally water resistant, durable, and replenishable.

Classes

Quilting with rulers is a wonderful way to add curved designs to your quilting repertoire. Bored with your walking foot and intimidated by full-on free motion quilting? Ruler work is an ideal compromise to create precise yet interesting stitching on your quilts using your domestic machine. In this 5-week class starting June 8, you will make a 9-block sampler of ruler work designs. The class will cover setting up your machine for ruler work, testing tension, and getting started. Each week you’ll make one or two blocks with practice fabric during class; between each class you’ll reproduce the blocks with your sampler fabric. At the end, you’ll learn a quilt-as-you-go method for joining the blocks together.

We are having a Quilt of Valor Workshop on June 14th. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military.  Help us support our vets by making a Quilt of Valor.  The group will make one quilt.  All fabric is provided.  Just bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy! Please register for either the morning or the afternoon session, as space is limited.

Come sew fun, fast, and wonky log cabin blocks for this quick scrapbusting quilt!  Planned chaos or improv, make the quilt you want to make with fabrics that bring you joy.  On Saturday, June 17th, Elizabeth will help you turn those left over scraps into beautiful blocks.  You can choose the size you want the quilt to be by adding more blocks.

Come visit Wonky Town filled with happy homes and tree lined neighborhoods.  Various sized houses and trees make up this scrap busting quilt of any size desired.  Plan and make your very own Wonky Town quilt on Sunday, June 18.  This is a fun and creative project, great for any season.

After you've finished your quilt, "Won't you take me to... Wonky Town?"
Do you have someone special graduating from school this year?  And do you have stacks of his or her t-shirts with school names, team names, club names, etc.?  Use them to make the perfect gift for the graduate! Debra B. shows you how starting Saturday, June 24th.

Our next session of the Complete Course of Quilting is coming up on June 25th. This 10-week quilting course teaches everything you need to know to start making your own quilts. This course covers the basics: getting to know your sewing machine, rotary cutting, fabric selection, and a variety of techniques for machine-piecing quilt blocks. You make a sampler quilt and learn to sandwich, quilt, and bind your masterpiece.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have placemat kits available at the shop, please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free pillowcase kits available!  We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness.  Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available.  These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster.  To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills.  To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
