What's New at CQ 1/9/2024

Dear Friends,

Well, we did it! The old classroom is now the longarm room, and the old longarm room is now the classroom! It is still a work in progress, but all the basics are there. Many fabrics have moved, too, so take your time looking around, and ask if you can't find something.

Second Saturday starts this week! Held via Zoom, the group will be making the Nineteen Thirty Quilt by Stitched in Color. Emphasis will be put on choosing fabrics based on contrast, applique techniques including needle turn, machine applique, and raw edge, and quilting and binding options.

We introduced the Roam Block of the Month last week, and it is now available to register for.  We are working on the shop model and hope to have it completed soon for you to see in person. Laura and Melonee have agreed to be your monthly "cruise directors" for this project, so you know it's going to be fun!  See below for more information.

Happy Sewing!

From Pammie Jane for Dear Stella, we have a new belender called Kitty Litter in 45 luscious shades. This low-volume print features ditsy cat heads and stars.

Marcia-Marcia-Marcia! We just cannot get enough! Marcia Derse has honed and perfected her techniques for creating unique pieces of hand-dyed and hand-painted fabrics, that Windham Fabrics has translated into printed bolts. Get twelve of Marcia's Essential prints in a collection of one yard cuts.

Grass Roots is a new blender reminiscent of grass cloth, this new tonal texture will inspire you to want all (27) colors! The rich and smoky palette is ideal for home décor as well as apparel. The unique texture will blend well with many styles including folkloric themes. Add these to your collection for some true panache!

Dear Stella's adorable ballerinas are back with Return of the Jete! Dancing ballerinas, toe shoes and pretty florals are perfectly choreographed for your next sewing project. A new ballet bag in these prints is sure to help your little ones dance all the way to their next class!

There are two seats available in the Get it Done session on January 12th.  Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects DONE!  Kat will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support.

Slow stitching is gaining popularity! If you'd like to try hand-piecing, we have a class for you!  Starting on January 15th, Laurie will instruct you on how to make your own stunning Lone Star wall hanging! The class is spread out over three sessions to give you plenty of time for "homework". There are currently only two in the class; we need at least a third to make it go.

Our Roam Block of the Month starts on January 27th. The Roam Block of the Month is the perfect way to explore a beautiful harmony of colors and values, with a modern twist. Each round demonstrates a wide range of techniques that will build the skills of novice quilters and will be a fun play day for the experts. Techniques include traditional piecing, strip piecing and an easy no-tear paper piecing. With a full complement of video tutorials and online learning support for all the BOM participants, the designer will share her tips and tricks for each step of the way, ensuring everyone has a great time and comes away with a beautiful quilt! This is a "no-sew" class - all your sewing will take place at home, in between classes.  In class, we'll go over any pitfalls you may encounter and how to overcome them, discuss techniques, and celebrate show and tell, in addition to becoming familiar with the designer's videos.

On February 4th, let Elizabeth show you how to Transform your Selvages!  Save those selvages and turn them into useful quilty projects, both small and big. You will make several different sampler blocks, including the spool block, to turn them into projects of your choice at home.  Shortcut tips and tricks for working with selvages will be covered.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have placemat kits available at the shop, please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
