What's New at CQ 1/23/2024
The Roam Block of the Month starts this Saturday! This gorgeous quilt by Tara Faughnan is the perfect way to explore a beautiful harmony of colors and values, with a modern twist. Each round demonstrates a wide range of techniques that will build the skills of novice quilters and will be a fun play day for the experts. Techniques include traditional piecing, strip piecing and an easy no-tear paper piecing. At Capital Quilts, we will meet monthly to review the month's piecing, and address any issues students have had. This is in addition to a full compliment of video tutorials and online learning support for all the BOM participants, in which Tara will share her tips and tricks for each step of the way, ensuring everyone has a great time and comes away with a beautiful quilt! Relax on Friday nights with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos. The next virtual session is February 2nd. |
On February 4th, let Elizabeth show you how to Transform your Selvages! Save those selvages and turn them into useful quilty projects, both small and big. You will make several different sampler blocks, including the spool block, to turn them into projects of your choice at home. Shortcut tips and tricks for working with selvages will be covered. |
Put your walking foot to work and watch it travel miles and miles of stitching! Learn the basics of using your walking foot by making nine sample blocks. In this class, you will: install your walking foot, test thread tension, learn to start and stop; learn several methods for marking a design on your quilt sandwich; and fill nine squares with different walking foot designs: straight lines, regular grids, irregular grids, triangles, curves, and spirals. Join the fun on February 17th in the Zoom version of Walking Foot 101 with Betsy. |
On February 17th, gather up all your unfinished sewing and bring it to Capital Quilts. Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects DONE! Kat will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support. |
