What's New at CQ 3/5/2024
We've had good response from those who have joined the UFO Club. So many of you are making progress on older projects! You can still join and earn rewards -- just stop in the shop or give us a call to enroll. We heard you about the scrapbusting! We are busy scheduling classes. So far, Karen Kehl is on the schedule; Deb Ball has agreed to teach a scrappy class using AccuQuilt OR rotary cutting; Louise, one of our longarmers, has committed to two scrappy classes; and Linda Henson has a scrappy table runner class ready that uses AccuQuilt. Hermine reminded me that her Scrappy Stitched Balls are also scrappy! And, Rae Cumbie from Fit for Art will offer a class using scrap lace. Stay tuned for all the dates and other details. Kat and I have selected a mystery quilt pattern, and you should expect to see that class in the not too distant future as well.
Happy Sewing! -Marianne

Transparency from Benartex was created by the folks at the Modern Quilt Studio to help quilters easily create luminous color combinations. This is a versatile collection in which all the prints are equally useful. Modern Quilt Studio has also written a free pattern called Frame of Mind for the collection. |
We've taken the Amazing Poppies panels and turned them into fabulous kits for you! Choose from either a medallion throw quilt in one of two colorways, or six placemats. |
We just got in two new Block on Board Accuquilt dies. These dies fit ANY accuquilt machine, and make piecing so much easier! Both blocks finish at 10". |
Meet Bear Hugs from QT Fabrics. Adorable bears and their cubs are center stage in this lovely collection styled with sophistication and grace. We have the panel in two colors and four coordinating bolts. |
A 36” American Eagle panel sets the stage in this ensemble of patriotic icons and symbols. Create quilts of valor, seasonal decorations, and more that will show your pride for our great country. |
Looking for additional storage? How about a cutting mat, ironing board and thread organizer? Meet Kiwi Storage Cabinet – Kangaroo Sewing Furniture’s signature storage caddy! On March 11, we are having a free Quilt of Valor workshop (registration is required due to limited space). These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. Help us support our vets by making a Quilt of Valor. The group will make one quilt. |
Several people mentioned that they wanted to take the hand quilting class, but it was full. So, we have another scheduled for Wednesday, 3/13! |
The next Get it Done session is scheduled for March 16th. Gather up all your unfinished sewing and bring it to Capital Quilts. Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects DONE! We will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support. |
On Saturday, March 30, join Linda as she takes you through the steps to making your very own Laura Heine Collage Quilt! In this class you will learn about the tools for success, collage basics, and recognizing details in fabric that add to your design. Once you finish the Spool of Flowers, you will be ready to tackle other Laura Heine collage projects on your own! |
Rod's Sharpening Service will be here on April 10th. Please drop off your items to be sharpened no later than 5pm on Tuesday, April 9th. You will be able to pick them up on the 11th. |
In this joyful class on April 21st, you’ll learn how to create an original “Scrappy Ball,” using basic embroidery stitches, fabric scraps, thread, yarn, and embellishments. You will leave with one beautifully textured “Scrappy Ball” plus instructions on how to create more at home. Basic sewing skills required. Instructor Hermine Bernstein is donating a portion of class fees to Blessings in a Backpack. BIAB mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for local school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry when school meals are not available. |
Harry is teaching his New York Beauty Table Runner class on April 28th. Paper Piecing allows you to create beautiful sharp angles that you could not easily achieve through traditional piecing. One of my favorite blocks is the New York Beauty, which comes in a variety of patterns. In this class you’ll learn the elements of paper piecing combined with the three-pin method for sewing curves to make a classic New York beauty block. |
