What's New at CQ 3/12/2024

Dear Friends,

Worldwide Quilting Day is the time each year that we celebrate quilting around the world and explore the ways that it binds us together. This event, held each year on the third Saturday in March, was created to connect quilters and the shops that support them.

For 2024, Capital Quilts is having a Worldwide Quilting Day SALE, both in-store and online!  Save 20% store-wide*! Use code 67W97 at checkout on Saturday, March 16th only.

Happy Sewing!

The subtle shading in Chalk Texture by Cherry Guidry for Benartex creates amazing depth and dimension, making it a perfect backdrop for feature prints!

Dragon Fyre by Dan Morris and the Morris creative group for Quilting Treasures comes alive on fabric. Fire breathing dragons are featured in a generous assortment of prints for endless quilting options. There are not one, but five gorgeous one-yard panels, a border print, and ten coordinates to go with them.

“Let me tell you: the only way to get rid of dragons is to have one of your own.”
? Evgeny Shvarts

We've gotten in more Quilt Essentials 6: Splash Batiks from Anthology, and they are even yummier in person!

Looking for additional storage? How about a cutting mat, ironing board and thread organizer? Meet Kiwi Storage Cabinet – Kangaroo Sewing Furniture’s signature storage caddy! Kiwi is the perfect complement to Kangaroo Sewing Furniture’s 3 signature cabinets. Through April 4, you can get one FREE with the purchase of a Wallaby, Aussie, or Kangaroo & Joey cabinet!

Classes

Several people mentioned that they wanted to take the hand quilting class, but it was full.  So, we have another scheduled for Wednesday, 3/13!

The next Get it Done session is scheduled for March 16th. Gather up all your unfinished sewing and bring it to Capital Quilts.  Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects DONE!  We will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support.

On Saturday, March 30, join Linda as she takes you through the steps to making your very own Laura Heine Collage Quilt! In this class you will learn about the tools for success, collage basics, and recognizing details in fabric that add to your design. Once you finish the Spool of Flowers, you will be ready to tackle other Laura Heine collage projects on your own!

Relax on April 5th with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting.

Rod's Sharpening Service will be here on April 10th.  Please drop off your items to be sharpened no later than 5pm on Tuesday, April 9th. You will be able to pick them up on the 11th.

On April 12th, learn the ins and outs of the longarm machine and the frame, how to set up for quilting a quilt, what proper tension is, and some basic quilting designs.

Also on April 12th, learn the basic buttons and tools of ProStitcher Premium. Customize Edge-to-Edge (E2E) designs on your computer to fit any quilt size and transfer the design to the ProStitcher on the longarm for accurate stitch out.

Make a Scrappy Pineapple Quilt with Louise on April 20th. Yours can be multicolored like Louise's, or a "traditional" yellow one.  Either way, it will be beautiful!

In this joyful class on April 21st, you’ll learn how to create an original “Scrappy Ball,” using basic embroidery stitches, fabric scraps, thread, yarn, and embellishments. You will leave with one beautifully textured “Scrappy Ball” plus instructions on how to create more at home. Basic sewing skills required. Instructor Hermine Bernstein is donating a portion of class fees to Blessings in a Backpack. BIAB mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for local school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry when school meals are not available.

Harry is teaching his New York Beauty Table Runner class on April 28th. Paper Piecing allows you to create beautiful sharp angles that you could not easily achieve through traditional piecing. One of my favorite blocks is the New York Beauty, which comes in a variety of patterns. In this class you’ll learn the elements of paper piecing combined with the three-pin method for sewing curves to make a classic New York beauty block.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have placemat kits available at the shop, please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
