What's New at CQ 4/16/24

Dear Friends,

The first All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop is coming up this July and August! The All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop Magazine is your guide to all things about the event. In addition, you will find patterns, articles and resources for sewing and quilting. Your magazine will be a great reference even after the Shop Hop has ended. Use it as inspiration for a new project, or to find a quilt shop as you meander through Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

  • Magazines will be available about 6 weeks before the event begins at participating Shop Hop stores.
  • Your magazine will include an official Passport. Each person in your party will need a Passport in order to register for prizes.
  • Regional and state maps are included in the magazine to help you plan your routes.

We are now pre-selling the magazines! Reserve one in-store or online today!

Happy Sewing!

Dawn Gerety's distinctive style of art translates so beautifully to the fabrics in Wild Waters from P&B Textiles. The warm and cool color palette is peaceful and invigorating at the same time. The panel images are simply stunning while the coordinate prints are no less beautiful. Plus, the unique ombre, single border design is exquisite. Try sewing two widths together to create a one-of-a-kind table cover or shower curtain!

Savanna Dreams by Kate Lower for Cloud 9 Fabrics is like a breath of fresh springtime air. The palette is modern and elegant. And with print names like Soar, Aspire, and Gather & Grow, how can you not love it?

The "Lake" Gustav Klimt fabric from Robert Kaufman that everyone is crazy about is back in stock! We have Klimt 10" squares and fat quarters, too.

The Excursion Duffel Bag pattern is written with panels in mind, but don't let that stop you! It'll be perfect to make up with yardage as well. Finished Size: 23" wide x 15" high x 12" deep.

Let your work tell an epic story using this amazing collection by Wishwell for Robert Kaufman. Storyboard features abstract and contemporary designs that resemble the likeness of graffiti, paired with fabulously bold hues that would create a statement in your next arrangement of fabrics. We have charms, strips, and fat quarter bundles available.

Looking for additional storage? How about a cutting mat, ironing board and thread organizer? You can get one FREE with the purchase of a Wallaby, Aussie, or Kangaroo & Joey cabinet in the promotion that has now been extended through April 17th!

Classes

Make a Scrappy Pineapple Quilt with Louise on April 20th. Yours can be multicolored like Louise's, or a "traditional" yellow one.  Either way, it will be beautiful!

The next Get It Done will be on Saturday, April 20. Gather up your unfinished projects and bring them to Capital Quilts. Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects finished! Kat will be here to help you through any difficult bits.

In this joyful class on April 21st, you’ll learn how to create an original “Scrappy Ball,” using basic embroidery stitches, fabric scraps, thread, yarn, and embellishments. You will leave with one beautifully textured “Scrappy Ball” plus instructions on how to create more at home. Basic sewing skills required. Instructor Hermine Bernstein is donating a portion of class fees to Blessings in a Backpack. BIAB mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for local school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry when school meals are not available.

Come to Capital Quilts on Thursday, April 25 with your sewing project, and sew in our classroom with none of the distractions found at home: no spouses, no kids, no animals, etc.. Please bring your project(s), cutters, sewing machine, etc. You will be provided with your own table. There are two ironing stations and three design walls for shared use. Make it your own mini-retreat!

On April 27th, join Linda for a fun scrap class that is also an introduction to the AccuQuilt cutting system. We will be using an AccuQuilt 8" Qube, giving you 72 possible blocks you can choose to make your table runner from!

Quilting with rulers is a wonderful way to add curved designs to your quilting repertoire. Bored with your walking foot and intimidated by full-on free motion quilting? Ruler work is an ideal compromise to create precise yet interesting stitching on your quilts using your domestic machine. In this 5-week class starting May 2, you will make a 9-block sampler of ruler work designs.

Relax on Friday, May 3 with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos.

Do you have someone special graduating from school this year?  And do you have stacks of his or her t-shirts with school names, team names, club names, etc.?  Use them to make the perfect gift for the graduate!  Or maybe your spouse has favorite t-shirts that are more hole than shirt: turn them into a quilt to love. Deb shows you how on Saturday, May 4.
