What's New at CQ 4/23/24
We are bringing in new-to-us things and teachers. Our first how-to video has been posted to our You Tube channel, and we are working on more. There is a Mystery Class on the books, and we are working on a challenge. The Northern Shenandoah Quilt Show had a great one: make a quilt featuring a song title that has a color in it (Blue Suede Shoes, Big Yellow Taxi, etc.). Interested? Let me know! As always, if you have a hankering for any classes or workshops that you don't see, please pass those suggestions along! I am always looking to better meet the needs of my customers. The first All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop is coming up this July and August! The All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop Magazine is your guide to all things about the event. In addition, you will find patterns, articles and resources for sewing and quilting. Your magazine will be a great reference even after the Shop Hop has ended. Use it as inspiration for a new project, or to find a quilt shop as you meander through Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. We are now pre-selling the magazines! Reserve one in-store or online today!
Happy Sewing! -Marianne

Come to Capital Quilts on Thursday, April 25 with your sewing project, and sew in our classroom with none of the distractions found at home: no spouses, no kids, no animals, etc.. Please bring your project(s), cutters, sewing machine, etc. You will be provided with your own table. There are two ironing stations and three design walls for shared use. Make it your own mini-retreat! |
On April 27th, join Linda for a fun scrap class that is also an introduction to the AccuQuilt cutting system. We will be using an AccuQuilt 8" Qube, giving you 72 possible blocks you can choose to make your table runner from! |
Quilting with rulers is a wonderful way to add curved designs to your quilting repertoire. Bored with your walking foot and intimidated by full-on free motion quilting? Ruler work is an ideal compromise to create precise yet interesting stitching on your quilts using your domestic machine. In this 5-week class starting May 2, you will make a 9-block sampler of ruler work designs. One seat is available! Due to a last-minute dropout, we have one seat available. This class sells out every time Betsy offers it, so don't pass up this opportunity! |
Relax on Friday, May 3 with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos. |
Do you have someone special graduating from school this year? And do you have stacks of his or her t-shirts with school names, team names, club names, etc.? Use them to make the perfect gift for the graduate! Or maybe your spouse has favorite t-shirts that are more hole than shirt: turn them into a quilt to love. Deb shows you how on Saturday, May 4. |
Our next Get it Done session is May 11th. Gather up all your unfinished sewing and bring it to Capital Quilts. Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects DONE! Kat will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support. |
There are currently two seats available in both the morning and the afternoon sessions of our next Quilt of Valor workshop on May 13th. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. Help us support our vets by making a Quilt of Valor. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy! |
Learn to longarm! Join Cynthia on May 15th to learn the ins and outs of the longarm machine and the frame, how to set up for quilting a quilt, what proper tension is, and some basic quilting designs. Completion of this class is required to rent time on the shop's Handi Quilter machines. |
If you want to use the computer on the longarm, you'll need to take Getting Started: The Basics of ProStitcher Premium on May 20th. Learn the basic buttons and tools of ProStitcher Premium. Customize Edge-to-Edge (E2E) designs on your computer to fit any quilt size and transfer the design to the ProStitcher on the longarm for accurate stitch out. |
We have an evening session of our Complete Course of Quilting starting on May 28th. This quilting course teaches everything you need to know to start making your own quilts. This course covers the basics: getting to know your sewing machine, rotary cutting, fabric selection, and a variety of techniques for machine-piecing quilt blocks. You make a sampler quilt and learn to sandwich, quilt, and bind your masterpiece. |
