What's New at CQ 5/14/24

Dear Friends,

We have a Mystery Quilt class on the books! Class will be held over two weekends (One Saturday and Sunday two weeks later). If you're afraid to pick out fabric for a pattern when you don't know what it looks like, we'll be happy to help!  We carefully chose a pattern that is not just the same block repeating over and over so you won't get bored sewing, and we think it's pretty, too. Classes with Cathy are always fun, and we expect this to fill quickly. There will be some homework, but wenches will be on hand during class to assist with pressing. (And unsewing, if necessary.)

The first All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop is coming up this July and August! The All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop Magazine is your guide to all things about the event. In addition, you will find patterns, articles and resources for sewing and quilting. Your magazine will be a great reference even after the Shop Hop has ended. Use it as inspiration for a new project, or to find a quilt shop as you meander through Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

We are now selling the magazines! Get yours in-store or online today!

Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

Products

We've gotten in THIRTY bolts of McKenna Ryan's Jelly Fish Batik line from Hoffman California. In it, you will find colors ranging from seafoam to denim blue to emerald to agate. The gorgeous chops depict jelly fish, kelp, sea urchins, and more.

In 1927, Frank Lloyd Wright designed a series of seasonally themed magazine covers for Liberty magazine, using the tools of an architect: compass, triangle, and t-square. The magazine returned the covers to Wright, stating that they were too "avant garde". Their loss is our gain, as Cloud 9 Fabrics, working in conjunction with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, has interpreted his March Balloons cover into quilting cotton.

We have both March Balloons and the coordinating House Beautiful blenders available in both the desert and water palettes.

Tell everyone about your passion with these aluminum signs!

Choose color confidently with this expansive set of 200 coordinated color cards! The deck contains rich colors, with black-to-white values on one side and practical color information on the other. Includes RGB / CMYK / HEX codes and a handy color guide with basic color theory and tips for using your Essential Color Card Deck. Based on the best-selling Ultimate 3-in-1 Color Tool by Joen Wolfrom, this is a fantastic new tool for your color toolbox!

We've gotten in new charms from Lori Holt. Each comes with a lobster claw clasp to attach it to whatever you wish!

Take a seat, take a spin, and fall in love with the #1 Rated Sewing Chair from Arrow Sewing!

The chair’s adjustable seat (seat height moves between 18 and 22 inches), plush cushions, lumbar support and five-star 360° swivel base make it easy to sew ergonomically, and the seat’s secret storage compartment is perfect for stashing notions. Available in 12 fabrics, some prints and some solids. One will be perfect for your sewing space.

Through June 4, save $150 off MSRP!

Classes

Learn to longarm! Join Cynthia on May 15th to learn the ins and outs of the longarm machine and the frame, how to set up for quilting a quilt, what proper tension is, and some basic quilting designs. Completion of this class is required to rent time on the shop's Handi Quilter machines.

If you want to use the computer on the longarm, you'll need to take Getting Started: The Basics of ProStitcher Premium on May 20th. Learn the basic buttons and tools of ProStitcher Premium. Customize Edge-to-Edge (E2E) designs on your computer to fit any quilt size and transfer the design to the ProStitcher on the longarm for accurate stitch out.

Join Jan and create the Phase quilt to celebrate the eclipse. In class starting May 22, you will learn how to piece those curves with ease!

Put your scraps of precious fabric, yarn, cord, trims and lace to good use as decorative scrap lace.  Bring them along for a day of play at Capital Quilts on June 1 with Rae Cumbie of Fit for Art Patterns.  Learn the ins and outs of building the lace on water soluble film, then stitch it in place and rinse away the film.  See several samples of ways to use your lace to make gifts or trim garments. Kit of materials provided, but bring your own scrappy contributions to the scrap lace party.

Debra has fallen in love with the possibilities that the QCR rulers have! Starting on June 4th, she'll take you through tips and techniques for making this stunningly beautiful "Posh Penelope" quilt.

We have scheduled a special session of Elizabeth's Playful Portraits class especially for our Deaf customers on June 6th, and will have an ASL interpreter during class.

There are currently two seats available.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com

Thanks to our customers, we were able to send out another 60 small kennel quilts to shelters in need this week!
