What's New at CQ 5/21/24

Dear Friends,

We have an exciting class to tell you about coming up later this year!

In October, Joan Raddel of Bucklebee Toolbox will be here teaching you how to make your very own CUSTOM sneakers!  Spend the day making a pair of real sneakers, with quilted uppers and rubber soles. You’ve been saving a bit of that favorite fabric for a special project, and Happy Feet! sneakers are absolutely special. You’ll quilt your chosen fabrics, cut out your component parts, bind raw edges, set eyelets, and then attach your uppers to your soles. It’s a straightforward project suitable for advanced beginners and intermediate sewists. Your kit fee covers everything but your fabric and shoelaces. Choose from black or white soles in YOUR size, and the pattern has directions for hi-top, classic, and ultra-low versions. Come join the fun on October 26th or 27th. Please note: In order to ensure Joan has the correct soles for your sneakers, enrollment must be completed not later than September 15th.

We've moved a few dozen bolts of fabric into our clearance section, and made a few Bolt Ends. Be sure to check out our clearance section, either in-store or online!

And now for the REALLY big news!  It is once again my anniversary of owning Capital Quilts, and of course, I'm having a sale to celebrate!  Take 20% off all regularly priced items, and an additional 10% off of clearance items. The sale runs from Friday, May 24th through Monday, May 27th both in-store and online. Unfortunately, we will not be able to honor any other discounts or promotions in conjunction with the sale, and it excludes furniture, machines, classes, services, and previous purchases.

Happy Sewing!

ps. don't forget to pick up your copy of the All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop Magazine!  The adventure begins in July!

Our cherry blossoms have faded, but Hoffman's digital Sakura prints let you keep them year-round!  We have a gorgeous panel and two coordinating bolts.

If you love batiks, check out Changing Seasons from Northcott for a vibrant autumnal palette.

Lotus and Koi by Lauren Wan for Robert Kaufman Fabrics features beautiful koi fish in a Japanese garden. All fabrics have a soft and graceful feel about them.

Did you know we carry over fifty different patterns written expressly for panels? Whether your panel has "blocks", is vertical, or horizontal, we're sure to have a pattern that will work for your vision!

Take a seat, take a spin, and fall in love with the #1 Rated Sewing Chair from Arrow Sewing!

The chair’s adjustable seat (seat height moves between 18 and 22 inches), plush cushions, lumbar support and five-star 360° swivel base make it easy to sew ergonomically, and the seat’s secret storage compartment is perfect for stashing notions. Available in 12 fabrics, some prints and some solids. One will be perfect for your sewing space.

Through June 4, save $150 off MSRP!

Join Jan and create the Phase quilt to celebrate the eclipse. Jan teaches starting tomorrow, and there are two seats left.  This course will meet once a month for three months.

We have a low-cost Open Sew on the books for Thursday, May 23 from 12-4.  Bring in your machine and project; you get use of our classroom, ironing stations and design walls, with no distractions from home!  Please note: we cannot safeguard against fabric distractions.

Put your scraps of precious fabric, yarn, cord, trims and lace to good use as decorative scrap lace.  Bring them along for a day of play at Capital Quilts on June 1 with Rae Cumbie of Fit for Art Patterns.  Learn the ins and outs of building the lace on water soluble film, then stitch it in place and rinse away the film.  See several samples of ways to use your lace to make gifts or trim garments. Kit of materials provided, but bring your own scrappy contributions to the scrap lace party.

Debra has fallen in love with the possibilities that the QCR rulers have! Starting on June 4th, she'll take you through tips and techniques for making this stunningly beautiful "Posh Penelope" quilt.

We have scheduled a special session of Elizabeth's Playful Portraits class especially for our Deaf customers on June 6th, and will have an ASL interpreter during class.

There are currently two seats available.

On June 7th, we have two options available for you. For homebodies, join Sew Together via ZOOM for lively quilting discussion with Karey Herriman and other quilters.

If going out is more your thing, come to Get it Done! at the shop with Kat. She will be here to help you over any "rough spots" you may be having, and laughter and camaraderie are bountiful.

On June 9th, come make a quilted half apron with deep pockets, custom sized to fit, with simple sewing and simple quilting, using your walking foot. Easy bias binding will be covered. These handy aprons will make one of a kind, hand-made gifts for yourself and friends. This class is for confident beginners who have basic quilting knowledge.

For those of you who love our charity sewing workshops, we have Quilts of Valor and Quilts for Kids scheduled out for the rest of the year.  Please register only for those sessions you are sure you can attend, so as to leave space for others.
