What's New at CQ 5/28/24

Dear Friends,

Music fills our lives, and I was so inspired and mesmerized by the Apple Valley Needle Threaders Challenge at the Northern Shenandoah Valley Quilt Show that I want to run it at the shop. We would like you to show us how you are inspired by a song with color in it -- either title or lyrics. Your submission should be 18" x 30", have three layers, and be quilted. You may piece, applique, foundation piece, EPP, collage, thread paint, quilt and embellish to your heart's content.  Yes, there will be prizes!  Yes, there will be a Gallery Show! Yes, we will have fun! I might even be convinced to have a party for all those who choose to participate! Submissions are due on or before Labor Day. Click HERE to register.

Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

ps. don't forget to pick up your copy of the All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop Magazine!  The adventure begins in July!

Products

We have EQ8 in stock!  This powerful quilt design software works on both Macs and PCs. Start with a layout from the library, or choose a pre-designed Quick Quilt project for instant inspiration. For complete control, design your layout from scratch! Choose any layout style—from traditional, to modern, to a completely custom design. Adjust your layout settings to make your quilt exactly as you like. Create custom-designed layouts and borders too!

We've also gotten in a bunch of EQ8 books, some of which are new to us.

We have new cork and "leather"!

The Third Hand Binding Folder makes it easier to create binding. The Binding Folder Clip is adjustable so it fits a standard ironing board as well as thinner boards. No tools necessary, just loosen the wing nut, slide the Binding Folder into place and turn the wing nut to secure it in place.

To create your binding, simply insert a 2.25" strip of fabric into the Binding Folder (note that there is a slot on top to allow you to use a pin to help pull the fabric through if necessary) then pull the binding and iron as you go. It's like having a 3rd hand to fold the binding in half while you iron!

If you are looking for a brilliant red wide back, we have a gorgeous bolt of 108" Chalk and Charcoal from Robert Kaufman in Scarlet.

If you love Gustav Klimt, pay attention!  We have gotten in several Neutral Fat Quarter Bundles, with hues ranging from ivory to black, all accented with gold ink. They're yummy!

Perfect for beginners and experienced quilters alike, this quilting book features simple illustrations and easy-to-follow steps that teach you how to make 15 beautiful quilt projects for around your home, including everything from an apron to a throw pillow to a table runner. The Quilted Home teaches you everything you need to know about how to create stylish, modern quilts for a variety of uses around your home.  Author Wendy Chow's signature bold color options and geometric shapes empower you to create quilts that will stand out and look stunning in a modern home.

The Quilting Power Grid by Sandra Sider is your resource for a lifetime of planning and designing template-free geometric modern quilts. This compact treasure is like many of the best things in life: simple. Designing a successful geometric quilt can be easy if a proportional sense of design is used, and in these pages, you'll hone that sense and use it for years to come. Tap into the power of grids and color for modern quilts so you can take basic design principles into your own hands. With clear and concise guidance, you'll learn how to build various types of grids and how to subvert them for dynamic compositions. The 50 quilt-top projects serve as learning examples and are very easy to cut and sew. They're constructed by piecing squares and rectangles in horizontal or vertical rows, and thanks to the grid's power, all you need are the required yardages and piecing instructions. Take the grid out to play!

Take a seat, take a spin, and fall in love with the #1 Rated Sewing Chair from Arrow Sewing!

The chair’s adjustable seat (seat height moves between 18 and 22 inches), plush cushions, lumbar support and five-star 360° swivel base make it easy to sew ergonomically, and the seat’s secret storage compartment is perfect for stashing notions. Available in 12 fabrics, some prints and some solids. One will be perfect for your sewing space.

Through June 4, save $150 off MSRP!

Classes

Debra has fallen in love with the possibilities that the QCR rulers have! Starting on June 4th, she'll take you through tips and techniques for making this stunningly beautiful "Posh Penelope" quilt. Two seats are currently available.

On June 7th, we have two options available for you. For homebodies, join Sew Together via ZOOM for lively quilting discussion with Karey Herriman and other quilters.

If going out is more your thing, come to Get it Done! at the shop with Kat. She will be here to help you over any "rough spots" you may be having, and laughter and camaraderie are bountiful.

On June 9th, come make a quilted half apron with deep pockets, custom sized to fit, with simple sewing and simple quilting, using your walking foot. Easy bias binding will be covered. These handy aprons will make one of a kind, hand-made gifts for yourself and friends. This class is for confident beginners who have basic quilting knowledge.

Learn to longarm! Easily finish your own quilts on our longarm after taking one or both of our Getting Started Classes. The Handi Quilter Longarm class will teach you what you need to know to use the longarm for free motion. If you're interested in learning the computerized designs, you'll need the ProStitcher Premium class. Both classes are scheduled for Monday, June 10.

There is still time to join the Mystery Class!  With Cathy teaching, this promises to be a rollicking good time! The pattern is lovely, if we do say so ourselves. If you are apprehensive about picking out fabrics, don't fret!  We are here to help you. The fun starts June 15th, with a follow up class on the 30th.
