What's New at CQ 6/4/24
There are so many new things happening in the shop! First, the All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop -- you've probably heard of it. We have our fabric and are working on a model. We can't wait to meet you all! Second, so many scrap-busting classes! You all seem to be enjoying them, and I will continue to schedule them as long as you're interested! Several of you have already expressed your enthusiasm about our "I Got The Music In Me" Quilt Challenge and are busy designing. To continue in that vein, I really want to do a block swap. I'm looking at a modern-ish pattern with EASY foundation piecing. Kat and I are already committed to making at least one block; are you in? Happy Sewing! -Marianne

Step out into a crisp fall morning with a brisk breeze and the sun shining. Harvest Gathering features an array of autumnal florals, tiny blooms and charming pumpkins evoking the spirit of the harvest season. But that is not all; the collection also includes a special placemat panel, allowing you to create your very own autumn-inspired table setting. ![]() |
Tara Faughnan has selected six beautiful Ruby+Bee Solids from Windham Fabrics for you to work with in this year’s QuiltCon fabric challenge, and we have them all here in the shop! Quilters may use from 3 to 6 colors in the palette to create their quilt. Any other fabric, neutrals, etc. may not be used on the quilt top or binding. Makers may use any fabric of their choice for the quilt backing. Maximum quilt size is 94” per side. ![]() |
Grip It Gloves are designed with the free motion quilter in mind. Cool and comfortable with a soft, flexible fingertip grip that gives full control with less resistance and drag on fabric. The form-fitting seamless design allows you to keep the Grip It Gloves on while changing threads, adjusting fabrics, cutting with scissors, and adding or removing pins. ![]() |
Windham has sent us more Marble Run by Marcia Derse! These bolts are more blender-like, and of course, coordinate beautifully with all of Marcia's other prints. ![]() |
To inspire your creativity with the Music Challenge, I've ordered in a few quilt challenge books. The quilts are AMAZING, and the number of local artists represented is almost overwhelming. |
Classes |
On June 7th, we have two options available for you. For homebodies, join Sew Together via ZOOM for lively quilting discussion with Karey Herriman and other quilters. If going out is more your thing, come to Get it Done! at the shop with Kat. She will be here to help you over any "rough spots" you may be having, and laughter and camaraderie are bountiful. |
Come make a quilted half apron with deep pockets, custom sized to fit. This apron involves simple sewing and simple quilting, using your walking foot. Easy bias binding will be covered. These handy aprons will make one of a kind, hand-made gifts for yourself and friends. Class is June 9. |
Learn to Longarm! Cynthia is teaching both Getting Started: The Handi Quilter Longarm and Getting Started: ProStitcher Premium on Monday, June 10. These are the classes you need to rent our longarms. |
There is still time to join the Mystery Class! With Cathy teaching, this promises to be a rollicking good time! The pattern is lovely, if we do say so ourselves. If you are apprehensive about picking out fabrics, don't fret! We are here to help you. The fun starts June 15th, with a follow up class on the 30th. |
Bring your box of fabric scraps and let your spirit free on June 22! They can be a curated collection or scraps left from a project or just random pieces from your scrap pile. There are no rules in Crumb Quilting. You will learn several techniques to combine scraps to create new fabric for future projects. Louise will discuss how to use your new crumb fabric in projects, and what patterns will work best for it. We like Marbles by Devoted Quilter, seen below. |
Kate is back on June 23rd with another Lovely Storage Bin class. The pattern will be included in the class fee. These adorable bins can be made in several sizes. Use them for storage or for beautiful gift baskets. |
Show us how you are inspired by a song with color in it -- either title or lyrics. Your submission should be 18" x 30", have three layers, and be quilted. You may piece, applique, foundation piece, EPP, collage, thread paint, quilt and embellish to your heart's content. Yes, there will be prizes! Yes, there will be a Gallery Show! Yes, we will have fun! I might even be convinced to have a party for all those who choose to participate! Submissions are due on or before Labor Day. |
