What's New at CQ 6/11/24
I am thrilled to let you know that we are participating in Aurifil's Thread Labs 2.0 program! Thread Labs is an essential resource for both seasoned Aurifil users and those new to our products. Each session, developed by our esteemed Aurifilosophers and Designers, includes an exclusive project that serves as both an educational tool and a source of inspiration for the featured thread weights. The subscription box delivers a meticulously selected assortment of threads, while our secure online portal provides subscribers with access to a wealth of exclusive materials, including project PDFs, interviews with educators, tutorials, special offers, and more. The first lab, Lab 2.1, grants early access to the Aurifilosophy Cool Thread Exemplar, a compact spool storage case, and a unique thread tracking booklet. Aurifil Designer Nicholas Ball will lead subscribers through a creative project that utilizes several thread weights included in the Thread Exemplar, while tutoring via exclusive video content to ensure a comprehensive learning experience for all proficiency levels. Each month, you will get a selection of threads, added value items/discount codes, access to a monthly giveaway, and an exclusive Aurifil swag item. Orchard & Grove by Jennifer Moore of Mona Luna for Windham has a cheerful, summery vibe. Jennifer took inspiration from her own backyard for these prints. |
Celeste is a stellar blender print from Windham, and we love it in this neutral! If you want some, you should probably get some before the staff cleans me out. |
I'd like to thank all of you who share my love of Gustav Klimt, because it means I can bring more fabric in! We just received 10" Squares featuring the neutral side of Klimt's palette. |
Retro Curved Pieced Quilts features 15 modern quilt patterns designed with a mod vibe in mind! Each throwback-inspired piece incorporates curvy piecing and touches of hand stitched elements that elevate each novelty design. (I am especially enamored with the Pyrex mixing bowls.) Also included are step-by-step instructions, different technique tutorials for successfully sewing curves, secrets that make it easier, tips on adding handiwork, and more. |
Classes |
There is still time to join the Mystery Class! With Cathy teaching, this promises to be a rollicking good time! The pattern is lovely, if we do say so ourselves. If you are apprehensive about picking out fabrics, don't fret! We are here to help you. The fun starts June 15th, with a follow up class on the 30th. |
Bring your box of fabric scraps and let your spirit free on June 22! They can be a curated collection or scraps left from a project or just random pieces from your scrap pile. There are no rules in Crumb Quilting. You will learn several techniques to combine scraps to create new fabric for future projects. Louise will discuss how to use your new crumb fabric in projects, and what patterns will work best for it. We've found another great crumb quilt for inspiration: Bonnie Hunter's True Friends quilt! |
Kate is back on June 23rd with another Lovely Storage Bin class. The pattern will be included in the class fee. These adorable bins can be made in several sizes. Use them for storage or for beautiful gift baskets. |
Of course we have another scrap class coming up! On July 14, join Karen Kehl for Scrap Swap. Most quilters have certain colors that they use most often, and others that they avoid. Our choices are not always conscious, but they can affect our reaction to the finished product, as well as our emotions while working on it. This class will help you play with colors, either those you like best or those you avoid. At the end of class, you will end up with a small panel, suitable for making a small wall hanging, pillow cover, or tote bag side. |
Linda Henson is back with another Laura Heine collage! These patterns let you make each creation uniquely your own, and they're fun to make, too! Let it Snow starts July 20th. |
Have you ever wanted to add a special element of hand quilted stitches to your quilts? In the Big Stitch class on 7/21, you will learn how simple hand quilting can be. Kate will cover hand quilting supplies, how to pick thread color, knotting your thread, marking your quilt, sewing a simple running stitch, and then hiding your knot. Bring some fabric or a small quilt to practice on! |
Show us how you are inspired by a song with color in it -- either title or lyrics. Your submission should be 18" x 30", have three layers, and be quilted. You may piece, applique, foundation piece, EPP, collage, thread paint, quilt and embellish to your heart's content. Yes, there will be prizes! Yes, there will be a Gallery Show! Yes, we will have fun! I might even be convinced to have a party for all those who choose to participate! Submissions are due on or before Labor Day. |
