What's New at CQ 6/25/24

Dear Friends,

The All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop starts in less than a week! Have you planned which stores you are going to see yet? Planned out your route? Gathered your quilting buddies? Sought out new and delicious places to eat along the way?

We have our shop model ready and have ordered patterns. Fabric will be available to purchase July 1st. Elizabeth worked on a new tote bag pattern that will be available then as well. We have our token blocks and our stamps ready. We even have magazines left if you still need one!

As a reminder, we will be closed on Thursday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day.

Happy Sewing!

The art deco style is perfectly reflected in this elegant fabric collection named Deco the Halls from Jennifer Ellory for P&B Textiles. Rich navy, forest green, and snow white are accented with gold metallic in each of the elegant designs. The block panel is stunning and unique, providing you with so many ideas for use. Heidi Pridemore of the Whimsical Workshop and Stacey Day both designed a beautiful array of projects – each with  complimentary patterns!

It should come as no surprise that I love ombre fabrics.

And Villa Rosa's Garden Villa pattern is a perfect way to showcase them!

We have made up a dozen or so kits pairing various ombres with complementary prints.

Windham has sent us Ebb & Flow, Kate R. Leachs first collection with them. It features deep rich hues and ornate designs. Windham brought Kates fabric to life by adding metallic embellishments to match her artwork. The metallic is soft and never overpowering. It adds just the right bit of shine and dimension to the prints, and especially, to your projects.

A wide back.

Quilts made with Ebb & Flow. Yellow titles are patterns for purchase; most are on order. White titles are free and can be found on our website when you click on the collection (above).

Sally Walsh of Sillier Than Sally has designed a Christmas line for P&B! We have a book panel, a panel with 9" blocks, and a FABULOUS red & white candy cane stripe.

Let your patriotism shine with this starry pattern! Sorting the prints by overall color and working in a gradient across the quilt will give the blocks a more structured look, with the white hexagons providing definition to the blocks. English Paper Piecing makes the Y-Seams stitch together with ease, and makes your project perfectly portable. Finished size: 15" x 21".

We have now made the Thread Labs available as individual month purchases!

Aurifil's Thread Labs 2.0 starts in July! Each month offers video learning from industry leaders, exclusive projects, swag, special offers, and a box of thread.

The first lab, Lab 2.1, grants early access to the Aurifilosophy Cool Thread Exemplar, a compact spool storage case, and a unique thread tracking booklet. Aurifil Designer Nicholas Ball will lead subscribers through a creative project that utilizes several thread weights included in the Thread Exemplar, while tutoring via exclusive video content to ensure a comprehensive learning experience for all proficiency levels. Subsequent labs will introduce new educators, thread assortments, and innovative techniques, fostering an environment where creativity and skill development flourish.

Relax on the evening of Friday, July 5th with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos.

On July 15th, join our Quilts of Valor group. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military.  Help us support our vets by making a Quilt of Valor. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just register for a seat, bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and lots of energy!

On the 16th of July, we have another charity sewing workshop, Quilts For Kids. Again, all fabric is provided; just register for a seat, bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and energy!

Linda Henson is back with another Laura Heine collage! These patterns let you make each creation uniquely your own, and they're fun to make, too! Let it Snow starts July 20th.

Have you ever wanted to add a special element of hand quilted stitches to your quilts? In the Big Stitch class on 7/21, you will learn how simple hand quilting can be. Kate will cover hand quilting supplies, how to pick thread color, knotting your thread, marking your quilt, sewing a simple running stitch, and then hiding your knot. Bring some fabric or a small quilt to practice on!

Show us how you are inspired by a song with color in it -- either title or lyrics. Your submission should be 18" x 30", have three layers, and be quilted. You may piece, applique, foundation piece, EPP, collage, thread paint, quilt and embellish to your heart's content.  Yes, there will be prizes!  Yes, there will be a Gallery Show! Yes, we will have fun! I might even be convinced to have a party for all those who choose to participate! Submissions are due on or before Labor Day.
