What's New at CQ 7/2/2024

Dear Friends,

Nimble Fingers Quilters is celebrating its 50th (golden) anniversary in 2024! They asked their members to show us what the theme “Solid Gold” means to them. The guild provided a fat quarter of gold fabric to each participant and asked them to make a quilt that was 18” square and used a recognizable amount of the gold fabric. The response was fantastic and the resulting quilts so varied and interesting!

We hope you enjoy seeing their interpretations of “Solid Gold” in our Gallery!

We're having so much fun meeting new friends and seeing old ones when they come in for the All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop! While you are here, be sure to stop by our Selfie Station. Photos posted to Facebook and Instagram that tag @capitalquilts will get entered into two prize drawings: a weekly one, and a larger one at the end of the hop.

As a reminder, we will be closed on Thursday, July 4th, in observance of Independence Day.

Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

Products

Have you fallen in love with the Dream Big Holiday Red Poinsettia Panel yet? These fabric panels are super popular with machine quilters because these panels are perfect for stretching your quilting muscles! It would also make an amazing center medallion for a larger quilt.

More Glitzy Christmas fabric from Hoffman! Winter's Eve features chickadees and metal-dusted evergreen trees in both gold and silver.

Holiday Splendor is richly accented with gold or silver, and the motifs are cardinals, ornaments, poinsettia. There are several blenders, too!

Blue Jay Song is more Thanksgiving themed. This beautiful, modern collection has finishing touches of metallic gold on rich, elegant colors.

Amodex is back in stock! This stain remover is among the best -- it can even remove Sharpie marks!

From Cloud9 we have Enchanted, a flirty and feminine collection that evokes a dreamy sense of nostalgic romance. Imagine a sun kissed day, a gentle breeze blowing with the soft scent of flowers in the air as you leisurely stroll around the gardens and let yourself be enchanted by the beauty that surrounds you.

Classes

We have now made the Thread Labs available as individual month purchases!

Aurifil's Thread Labs 2.0 starts in July! Each month offers video learning from industry leaders, exclusive projects, swag, special offers, and a box of thread.

The first lab, Lab 2.1, grants early access to the Aurifilosophy Cool Thread Exemplar, a compact spool storage case, and a unique thread tracking booklet. Aurifil Designer Nicholas Ball will lead subscribers through a creative project that utilizes several thread weights included in the Thread Exemplar, while tutoring via exclusive video content to ensure a comprehensive learning experience for all proficiency levels. Subsequent labs will introduce new educators, thread assortments, and innovative techniques, fostering an environment where creativity and skill development flourish.

Relax on the evening of Friday, July 5th with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos.

On July 15th, join our Quilts of Valor group. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military.  Help us support our vets by making a Quilt of Valor. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just register for a seat, bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and lots of energy!

On the 17th of July, we have another charity sewing workshop, Quilts For Kids. Again, all fabric is provided; just register for a seat, bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and energy!

Linda Henson is back with another Laura Heine collage! These patterns let you make each creation uniquely your own, and they're fun to make, too! Let it Snow starts July 20th.

The next Get it Done is scheduled for 7/20. Gather up all your unfinished sewing and bring it to Capital Quilts.  Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects DONE!  We will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support.

Have you ever wanted to add a special element of hand quilted stitches to your quilts? In the Big Stitch class on 7/21, you will learn how simple hand quilting can be. Kate will cover hand quilting supplies, how to pick thread color, knotting your thread, marking your quilt, sewing a simple running stitch, and then hiding your knot. Bring some fabric or a small quilt to practice on!

Show us how you are inspired by a song with color in it -- either title or lyrics. Your submission should be 18" x 30", have three layers, and be quilted. You may piece, applique, foundation piece, EPP, collage, thread paint, quilt and embellish to your heart's content.  Yes, there will be prizes!  Yes, there will be a Gallery Show! Yes, we will have fun! I might even be convinced to have a party for all those who choose to participate! Submissions are due on or before Labor Day.
