What's New at CQ 7/11/2024
We are getting to see so many shop hoppers! What fun! The heat has been pretty bad outside, but don't worry -- our A.C. is on and working! If you are out in the heat, please be careful, drink plenty of water, and rest often. When you are here on your hop, don't miss our "Selfie Station", where you can take your photo under the saying "Why yes, we are sewciopaths". And, if you post it to FaceBook or Instagram and tag the shop, you will be entered into both a weekly drawing for a prize valued at approximately $30, and also a Grand Prize Drawing when the Shop Hop ends. We still have a good amount of most of the Shop Hop fabrics and panels in stock. Don't miss the Nimble Fingers Guild's "Solid Gold" Challenge quilts that are hanging in our Gallery. And, we have a rack with all of our exclusive Capital Quilts patterns for you to peruse.
Happy Sewing! -Marianne

We have now made the Thread Labs available as individual month purchases! Aurifil's Thread Labs 2.0 starts in July! Each month offers video learning from industry leaders, exclusive projects, swag, special offers, and a box of thread. The first lab, Lab 2.1, grants early access to the Aurifilosophy Cool Thread Exemplar, a compact spool storage case, and a unique thread tracking booklet. Aurifil Designer Nicholas Ball will lead subscribers through a creative project that utilizes several thread weights included in the Thread Exemplar, while tutoring via exclusive video content to ensure a comprehensive learning experience for all proficiency levels. Subsequent labs will introduce new educators, thread assortments, and innovative techniques, fostering an environment where creativity and skill development flourish. |

On July 15th, join our Quilts of Valor group. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. Help us support our vets by making a Quilt of Valor. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just register for a seat, bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and lots of energy! There are currently open seats in both the morning and afternoon sessions of this free workshop. |
On the 17th of July, we have another charity sewing workshop, Quilts For Kids. Again, all fabric is provided; just register for a seat, bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and energy! There is one spot currently available in this workshop. |
Linda Henson is back with another Laura Heine collage! These patterns let you make each creation uniquely your own, and they're fun to make, too! Let it Snow starts July 20th. |
The next Get it Done is scheduled for 7/20. Gather up all your unfinished sewing and bring it to Capital Quilts. Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects DONE! We will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support. |
Have you ever wanted to add a special element of hand quilted stitches to your quilts? In the Big Stitch class on 7/21, you will learn how simple hand quilting can be. Kate will cover hand quilting supplies, how to pick thread color, knotting your thread, marking your quilt, sewing a simple running stitch, and then hiding your knot. Bring some fabric or a small quilt to practice on! |
Bored with your walking foot and intimidated by full-on free motion quilting? Ruler work is an ideal compromise to create precise yet interesting stitching on your quilts using your domestic machine. In this 5-week Intro to Ruler Work class starting on 7/31, you will make a 9-block sampler of ruler work designs. The class will cover setting up your machine for ruler work, testing tension, and getting started. Each week you’ll make one or two blocks with practice fabric during class; between each class you’ll reproduce the blocks with your sampler fabric. At the end, you’ll learn a quilt-as-you-go method for joining the blocks together. If this sounds like something you're interested in, we suggest enrolling sooner rather than later, as this class tends to sell out quickly. |
Show us how you are inspired by a song with color in it -- either title or lyrics. Your submission should be 18" x 30", have three layers, and be quilted. You may piece, applique, foundation piece, EPP, collage, thread paint, quilt and embellish to your heart's content. Yes, there will be prizes! Yes, there will be a Gallery Show! Yes, we will have fun! I might even be convinced to have a party for all those who choose to participate! Submissions are due on or before Labor Day. |
