What's New at CQ 7/16/2024

Dear Friends,

We've seen 300 shop hoppers from all over!  Some have flown in from other parts of the country to participate, and we are blown away!  Thank you, everyone!

Tips for Shop Hoppers:

  • When you are here on your hop, don't miss our "Selfie Station", where you can take your photo under the saying "Why yes, we are sewciopaths". And, if you post it to FaceBook or Instagram and tag the shop, you will be entered into both a weekly drawing for a prize valued at approximately $30, and also a Grand Prize Drawing when the Shop Hop ends.
  • We still have a good amount of most of the Shop Hop fabrics and panels in stock. Don't miss the Nimble Fingers Guild's "Solid Gold" Challenge quilts that are hanging in our Gallery. And, we have a rack with all of our exclusive Capital Quilts patterns for you to peruse.
  • If you are bringing with you a friend that hasn't been here before, make sure they tell the cashier that it's their first visit. We have a surprise for them!
  • Be sure to drink plenty of water, eat good food, and do not leave your animals in the car!  We are a dog-friendly shop, so bring them in.

In addition to our prize drawing, our 500th Shop Hopper will receive something super special!

Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

Products

Happiness is woven into every thread of Chicken Littles. This whimsical assortment features chirpy floral chicken silhouettes, adorable baby chicks, charming chicken wire, and vibrant packed florals. Dive into a palette as cheerful as a garden party - with egg yolk yellow, clementine orange, sky blue and tomato red. Chicken Littles will fill your home with joy, one feathered friend at a time!

We've been making kits for you!

First, we have the Road Trip Tote, designed by Elizabeth for the All Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop. The kit contains EVERYTHING you need to make this tote except thread!  Pattern is also available separately.

Next, we have re-made one of our best selling quilt kits, Interlace MCM Orange.

On to the table runner kits! Sew Random encourages you to be creative, and we've kitted it up in several different fabrics - some in to see them all.

Sew Charmed uses 5" charm squares, and we have it kitted with red, white, and blue, to emulate the look on the pattern.

These luscious batiks were designed by Jacqueline de Jonge for Anthology.

Also from Anthology are these wonderful greens from the Juniper collection.

We have now made the Thread Labs available as individual month purchases!

Each month offers video learning from industry leaders, exclusive projects, swag, special offers, and a box of thread.  July is now in stock!

The first lab, Lab 2.1, grants early access to the Aurifilosophy Cool Thread Exemplar, a compact spool storage case, and a unique thread tracking booklet. Aurifil Designer Nicholas Ball will lead subscribers through a creative project that utilizes several thread weights included in the Thread Exemplar, while tutoring via exclusive video content to ensure a comprehensive learning experience for all proficiency levels. Subsequent labs will introduce new educators, thread assortments, and innovative techniques, fostering an environment where creativity and skill development flourish.

Classes

Linda Henson is back with another Laura Heine collage! These patterns let you make each creation uniquely your own, and they're fun to make, too! Let it Snow starts July 20th.

The next Get it Done is scheduled for 7/20. Gather up all your unfinished sewing and bring it to Capital Quilts.  Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects DONE!  We will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support.

Have you ever wanted to add a special element of hand quilted stitches to your quilts? In the Big Stitch class on 7/21, you will learn how simple hand quilting can be. Kate will cover hand quilting supplies, how to pick thread color, knotting your thread, marking your quilt, sewing a simple running stitch, and then hiding your knot. Bring some fabric or a small quilt to practice on!

Bored with your walking foot and intimidated by full-on free motion quilting? Ruler work is an ideal compromise to create precise yet interesting stitching on your quilts using your domestic machine. In this 5-week Intro to Ruler Work class starting on 7/31, you will make a 9-block sampler of ruler work designs. The class will cover setting up your machine for ruler work, testing tension, and getting started. Each week you’ll make one or two blocks with practice fabric during class; between each class you’ll reproduce the blocks with your sampler fabric. At the end, you’ll learn a quilt-as-you-go method for joining the blocks together.

If this sounds like something you're interested in, we suggest enrolling sooner rather than later, as this class tends to sell out quickly.

Relax on Friday, August 2 with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos.

Scrapbuster class alert!  Join Debbie as she guilds you in how to use your scraps to make your own Twist and Turn quilt on August 11th.

No matter the time of year, what better way to celebrate the cycles of life than with a wreath?  The Twister Holiday Wreath we will sew in this class lends itself to celebrating any holiday with style. Your fabric selection will depend upon the holiday you wish to celebrate, be it the 4th of July, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter—you decide! Preparing the 3.5” squares in advance of the first class is an option. This quilt finishes at 24.5" square. Janice Wheeler shows you how starting on August 13th.

Show us how you are inspired by a song with color in it -- either title or lyrics. Your submission should be 18" x 30", have three layers, and be quilted. You may piece, applique, foundation piece, EPP, collage, thread paint, quilt and embellish to your heart's content.  Yes, there will be prizes!  Yes, there will be a Gallery Show! Yes, we will have fun! I might even be convinced to have a party for all those who choose to participate! Submissions are due on or before Labor Day.
