What's New at CQ 7/30/24
In you haven't seen the Nimble Fingers Challenge Quilts in the Gallery, you've got one day left to see them! We'll be taking them down at the end of business on Wednesday. We've had so many hoppers that we are out of fabric squares, but don't panic, we are getting more. The Hop Team is rushing us more stock. Those who came in when we were out of them will receive them in the mail within the next week. I've been inspired by Cheryl Sleboda of muppin.com to make a pincushion. So, I ordered a slew of pincushion patterns, and they have started to arrive. Carol and I are both making the hedgehog, because it's so darn cute! Join the fun and make a pincushion for you! Or a friend.
Happy Sewing! -Marianne
Tips for Shop Hoppers: When you are here on your hop, don't miss our "Selfie Station", where you can take your photo under the saying "Why yes, we are sewciopaths". And, if you post it to FaceBook or Instagram and tag the shop, you will be entered into both a weekly drawing for a prize valued at approximately $30, and also a Grand Prize Drawing when the Shop Hop ends. We still have a good amount of most of the Shop Hop fabrics and panels in stock. And, we have a rack with all of our exclusive Capital Quilts patterns for you to peruse. If you are bringing with you a friend that hasn't been here before, make sure they tell the cashier that it's their first visit. We have a surprise for them! Be sure to drink plenty of water, eat good food, and do not leave your animals in the car! We are a dog-friendly shop, so bring them in. In addition to our prize drawing, our 500th Shop Hopper will receive something super special!

Bored with your walking foot and intimidated by full-on free motion quilting? Ruler work is an ideal compromise to create precise yet interesting stitching on your quilts using your domestic machine. In this 5-week Intro to Ruler Work class starting on 7/31, you will make a 9-block sampler of ruler work designs. The class will cover setting up your machine for ruler work, testing tension, and getting started. Each week you’ll make one or two blocks with practice fabric during class; between each class you’ll reproduce the blocks with your sampler fabric. At the end, you’ll learn a quilt-as-you-go method for joining the blocks together. There are currently two seats available in this popular class. |
Relax on Friday, August 2 with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos. |
Scrapbuster class alert! Join Debbie as she guides you in how to use your scraps to make your own Twist and Turn quilt on August 11th. |
No matter the time of year, what better way to celebrate the cycles of life than with a wreath? The Twister Holiday Wreath we will sew in this class lends itself to celebrating any holiday with style. Your fabric selection will depend upon the holiday you wish to celebrate, be it the 4th of July, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter—you decide! Preparing the 3.5” squares in advance of the first class is an option. This quilt finishes at 24.5" square. Janice Wheeler shows you how starting on August 13th. |
The Star Storm Mini is built by strategically placing strips of fabric to form rings around a central pieced inner star. The Star Storm is not foundation paper pieced but formed on large scale paper templates to create the star points. The class will walk step by step through the placement of strips and aligning the angles to form the star. Want to make a full-size Star Storm? No problem! Purchase the regular Star Storm instead, and purchase yardage as per the pattern. This class is also suitable for those who have previously taken a Star Storm quilt class, and want assistance in finishing. This 4-part class starts on August 14th. |
On August 17th, gather up your projects and bring them to Get it Done! Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects moving towards finished! Kat will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support. |
Louise will take you through using your scrap fabrics to create this Scrappy Pumpkin Quilt on August 24th. |
