What's New at CQ 8/6/24
We have a special new exhibit in our Gallery through August. Carol Burnside, Curious Priest and Quilter for Social Justice, has created a collection of art quilts called "The Race Against Race". After learning about the death of Sandra Bland while in police custody, Carol felt angry and helpless. She asked God what she could do, and got the message back "Make quilts." Come in and take a look at this thought-provoking and hopefully, conversation-starting display. You may not agree with her point of view, but you have to admire her commitment to a cause she believes in. A portion of her display is interactive; if you were impacted by the situation and feel so moved, you may write your loved one's name on the quilt. Pens are provided. Some of the quilts can be overwhelming. View them with a friend. Candy will be provided on request to boost your mood. (Chocolate fixes everything.)
Happy Sewing! -Marianne
Tips for Shop Hoppers: When you are here on your hop, don't miss our "Selfie Station", where you can take your photo under the saying "Why yes, we are sewciopaths". And, if you post it to FaceBook or Instagram and tag the shop, you will be entered into both a weekly drawing for a prize valued at approximately $30, and also a Grand Prize Drawing when the Shop Hop ends. We still have a good amount of most of the Shop Hop fabrics and panels in stock. And, we have a rack with all of our exclusive Capital Quilts patterns for you to peruse. If you are bringing with you a friend that hasn't been here before, make sure they tell the cashier that it's their first visit. We have a surprise for them! Be sure to drink plenty of water, eat good food, and do not leave your animals in the car! We are a dog-friendly shop, so bring them in.

Scrapbuster class alert! Join Debbie as she guides you in how to use your scraps to make your own Twist and Turn quilt on August 11th. |
No matter the time of year, what better way to celebrate the cycles of life than with a wreath? The Twister Holiday Wreath we will sew in this class lends itself to celebrating any holiday with style. Your fabric selection will depend upon the holiday you wish to celebrate, be it the 4th of July, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter—you decide! Preparing the 3.5” squares in advance of the first class is an option. This quilt finishes at 24.5" square. Janice Wheeler shows you how starting on August 13th. |
The Star Storm Mini is built by strategically placing strips of fabric to form rings around a central pieced inner star. The Star Storm is not foundation paper pieced but formed on large scale paper templates to create the star points. The class will walk step by step through the placement of strips and aligning the angles to form the star. Want to make a full-size Star Storm? No problem! Purchase the regular Star Storm instead, and purchase yardage as per the pattern. This class is also suitable for those who have previously taken a Star Storm quilt class, and want assistance in finishing. This 4-part class starts on August 14th. |
On August 17th, gather up your projects and bring them to Get it Done! Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects moving towards finished! Kat will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support. |
Louise will take you through using your scrap fabrics to create this Scrappy Pumpkin Quilt on August 24th. Only ONE seat left! |
On August 19th, join our Quilt of Valor group! Both morning and afternoon spots are available. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. Help us support our vets by making a Quilt of Valor. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy! |
The next Quilts for Kids workshop is scheduled for August 21st. |
In conjunction with her Gallery exhibit, "The Race Against Race", Carol Burnside will give a talk about her work on Friday, August 23rd at 6:00pm. No charge for this event, but please register as space is limited. |
Show us how you are inspired by a song with color in it -- either title or lyrics. Your submission should be 18" x 30", have three layers, and be quilted. You may piece, applique, foundation piece, EPP, collage, thread paint, quilt and embellish to your heart's content. Yes, there will be prizes! Yes, there will be a Gallery Show! Yes, we will have fun! I might even be convinced to have a party for all those who choose to participate! Submissions are due on or before Labor Day. |
