What's New at CQ 11/5/24

Dear Friends,

Exciting news! We are working with Joan to put more sneaker classes on the books! She's booked solid through July, so the classes will be August or later. We'll make a formal announcement when the classes are live for registration.

New landscape fabric is on the horizon - Florence and Capri - and we will soon have a new Hold Everything model.

We've ordered "jelly vinyl". If you are unfamiliar with it (I was), it is a see through or translucent colored vinyl, great for project bags and other items where you would normally use clear vinyl.

If you want your scissors, knives, or small gardening tools sharpened, they need to be in the store by close of business on Tuesday, 11/12.

Please note that we will be CLOSED for Thanskgiving, and will close at 3pm on Wednesday the 27th.

Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

ps. Through the end of the year, every time you come into the shop and make a purchase, you can fill out a slip to be entered into a drawing to be held on January 2nd for a $75 Capital Quilts Gift Card. This card can be used towards anything in the store, including classes! This is in addition to our regular monthly Blue Bag drawing.

Products

All of you bag makers will be excited about our new EMBOSSED vegan leather. We have it available in silvery blue, rich brown, or brilliant red.

Rainbow Quilt Color Method isn’t just a collection of 15 beautiful quilts to make, it’s also a course study on how to confidently choose fabric for multi-color and monotone designs. Sarah Thomas (SARIDITTY) shares her approach to selecting a harmonious palate that achieves design strength through color placement. She then goes on to explain how she uses color saturation and color value to make the same quilt with alternate coloration. Filled with techniques that let the consumers choose their own preferences to achieve their own results, it also includes instruction for basic patchwork, curves, both English and foundation paper piecing, and applique. Improve your own quilting skills by learning from a master!

If you are attending Sarah's workshop with the Nimble Fingers Guild, you'll need to purchase this book for class!

The latest issue of Quiltfolk has come in, featuring Washington State. Washington is not just a place—it’s an experience. Across the state, quilting circles, guilds, and shops contribute to a deeply rooted tradition of craftsmanship and ingenuity, creating works that are as varied as Washington itself. Whether it’s in a cozy quilting studio or a cutting-edge startup, the spirit of creativity and community is alive and well in this corner of the Pacific Northwest.

This issue has articles on The 1876 Centennial Quilt Project, Charisma Horton, David Owen Hastings, Mathew Boudreaux (aka Mx Domestic), The Hartsfield African American Slave Quilts’ Last Caretaker, Pacific Northwest African American Quilters, Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fiber Arts Museum, Scott Hansen, and more!

Riley Blake has sent us precuts for their Chalk and Charcoal batik line. Chalk & Charcoal has layers of different techniques in the feature fabric showcasing the creativity found in Indonesia.

QUILT SHOW SCHEDULE

Finished for the year!

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have placemat kits available at the shop, please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
