What's New at CQ 11/19/24

Dear Friends,

What else can we do to help you get ready for your holidays?

We have a few classes that are great for gift making: The Winter Holiday Table Runner, a Microwave Cozy, and a tote bag class. Soon to come:  key fobs.

We have kits in holiday themes: Holiday Star Ornament, Winter Snowman Table Runner, Winter Garden Wreath Quilt, Oh Christmas Deer, Lil Cross Stitched in Wintry Blues or Green and Gold, Christmas Mischief and more.

Do you need an Advent Calendar? We have two Advent Calendar panels: the Grinch and Christmas Post. There are still other Christmas panels available, too!

Please note that we will be CLOSED for Thanksgiving, and will close at 3pm on Wednesday the 27th. We will be open normal hours on Friday, November 29th.

Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

ps. Through the end of the year, every time you come into the shop and make a purchase, you can fill out a slip to be entered into a drawing to be held on January 2nd for a $75 Capital Quilts Gift Card. This card can be used towards anything in the store, including classes! This is in addition to our regular monthly Blue Bag drawing.

Products

It Takes a Village by Jennifer Long for Riley Blake features a large play mat panel and coordinates. Perfect for the child that loves to play with small cars! She also designed a super cute quilt featuring the panel.

Did you know that Capital Quilts carries over 100 bag/tote/purse patterns? And lots of cork, vinyl, and hardware to support them? Here are a few of our most recently received patterns.

I simply love Charley Harper fabrics, and cannot resist bringing in FQ bundles. We've just received the "Iconic" bundle, and it's wonderful!

Classes

If you aren't doing anything tomorrow morning, join us to make quilts for kids! All fabric is provided -- you just need to register and bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies.

NEW CLASS ALERT! In a two-part class starting 12/3, Melonee will walk you through making one of two Aunties Two tote bags! Both Happy Hauler and Cork Totes use the same construction principles, so choose your pattern!!

Cathy has graciously agreed to teach another Microwave Bowl Cozy class, on December 5th. These cozies make terrific gifts for family and friends, and you can choose to also buy a microwave safe bowl to insert in the cozy to make the gift instantly usable! You will have plenty of time to make more than one cozy during the class time, and practice makes perfect, so bring lots of already cut fabric and batting!

Sew Together! Start December on the 6th with a virtual quilting bee! Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos.

Karen Kehl will be teaching her Winter Holiday Table Runner on December 7th. This pattern is written for Hannukah, Christmas, or the Epiphany, but could easily be adapted for Kwaanza, too.

The Quilt of Valor Workshop day for December is the 9th. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. Help us support our vets by making a Quilt of Valor.  The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy!

If you want to learn how to use our longarms, we have one more class this year, on Friday, December 13th. This class is required if you want to rent our longarms to finish your quilts.

If you love our free charity sewing workshops, you'll be pleased to know that we've scheduled Quilts of Valor and Quilts for Kids for all of 2025.

The English Paper Piecing Club has been scheduled for all of 2025, and is now accepting registrations.

The top secret reveal of the 2025 Second Saturday Club is happening this Friday. As soon as it's been revealed, signups will be open.

Finished for the year!

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

For those who want to sew placemats for Meals on Wheels and/or Iona House from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern. We also have free kits in the shop.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
