What's New at CQ 12/3/2024
I came back from vacation to a back room FULL of fabric deliveries! Some of these lines are holiday related, and so I've decided to put ALL Flannel, ALL Halloween fabric, ALL Autumn fabric, ALL Thanksgiving fabric, ALL Hanukkah fabric, and ALL Christmas fabric on sale at 25% off! This sale is good through December 31st, 2024. We continue to offer quick classes for making gifts this month. Check out the microwave cozy, the key fobs, and drawstring gift bags below!
Happy Sewing! -Marianne
ps. Through the end of the year, every time you come into the shop and make a purchase, you can fill out a slip to be entered into a drawing to be held on January 2nd for a $75 Capital Quilts Gift Card. This card can be used towards anything in the store, including classes! This is in addition to our regular monthly Blue Bag drawing.

First up, we have Winter Forest by Cheryl Hanes. You’ll find bears, moose and foxes frolicking in the wild, in both the block panel and all over coordinates. The thoughtful combination of plaid, herringbone and wool texture backgrounds in deep rich hues provide limitless design possibilities. These fabrics may look like flannel, but they're standard quilting cotton prints. |
Have you gotten your Grinch Christmas tree skirt panel yet? We have 12 available. It finishes at about 42", and coordinates wonderfully with the advent calendar. |
Little Builder by Nicole DeCamp is bursting with construction fun and imagination! Bright-cheerful primary colors, playful hand-drawn icons and fun phrases perfect for all your child inspired sewing projects. |
Let David Galchutt's imaginative style and the rich depth of his colors envelop you with Christmas Spirit. The highlight of this fabric line is a spectacular panel depicting Father Christmas himself in extraordinary detail. Motifs from the panel are repeated in the border stripe and focal prints. Coordinates of scrolls, stars, dots and geos round out the collection. There's a cute free pattern, too! |
Robo Boogie by Sugaridoo is a whimsical blender line featuring... robots! You're sure to find dozens of uses for these bright basics. If you need inspiration, head on over to the Sugaridoo blog to make her free pattern, Robo Confetti! |
We also have some Flora & Fauna by Amanda Murphy. Foxes and deer cavort in the forest, accompanied by a few blenders. |
Designer Cherry Guidry charms with a panel in beautiful fall colors, plaids, cute owls and pumpkins. Like a relaxing stroll through an Autumn neighborhood, you can feel the cool breeze and smell the spices. |
Finally, we have NYSNO from Jason Yenter of In the Beginning Fabrics. Just a panel and a border stripe, but they'll sew up quickly into a wall hanging or small throw. |
Classes |
Karen Kehl will be teaching her Winter Holiday Table Runner on December 7th. This pattern is written for Hannukah, Christmas, or the Epiphany, but could easily be adapted for Kwaanza, too. |
The Quilt of Valor Workshop day for December is the 9th. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. Help us support our vets by making a Quilt of Valor. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy! |
We've moved Cathy's microwave bowl cozy class to Saturday, December 14th, in order to allow more of you to take the class. You will have plenty of time to make more than one cozy during the class time, and practice makes perfect, so bring lots of already cut fabric and batting! These cozies make terrific gifts for family and friends, and you can choose to also buy a microwave safe bowl to insert in the cozy to make the gift instantly usable! |
Remember when I told you I was making key fobs? They came out great, and my family loves them (they were gifted early). I'd love to show you how to make them too! Please join me in the Custom Key Fob class on December 15th. |
Elizabeth has grown tired of wrapping gifts for her family every year and wasting paper, so she came up with these reusable drawstring Gift Bags! She is making at least one per person to put all their gifts in one bag instead of wrapping them individually. These also make great gifts on their own, especially for travel. So, gather up your yardage and scraps and join her in making these on December 15th. |
The 2025 Second Saturday projects have been revealed! In 2025, the Second Saturday Club is going to explore color, technique and creativity. We will be making two projects this year: Ode to Mary Blair, pattern by Corinne Sovey Design Studio and Vitamin Sea, pattern by Swirly Girls. Both projects are suitable for the confident beginner. The more advanced quilter will be able to challenge themselves by learning new techniques, pattern and size adjustment and playing with color. Registration is OPEN! Don't forget that since this class is held over ZOOM, you need not be local to the shop to participate! |
If you love our free charity sewing workshops, you'll be pleased to know that we've scheduled Quilts of Valor and Quilts for Kids for all of 2025. The English Paper Piecing Club has been scheduled for all of 2025, and is now accepting registrations. |

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns. |
For those who want to sew placemats for Meals on Wheels and/or Iona House from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern. We also have free kits in the shop.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com |
