What's New at CQ 2/11/2025

Dear Friends,

As it is expected to snow all night, we are rescheduling the Quilts For Kids Workshop to later in the month. We'll let you know when we have a date.

SNEAKER DRIVE: We all have old sneakers in the back of our closet that don't look good anymore, but aren't so bad that you want to throw them away. Why not donate them and do some good?

Our neighbor Silver Lining Physical Therapy & Wellness is holding a sneaker drive to benefit  The National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics. The NAFCC’s mission is to build healthy communities for all through accessible, equitable, and quality healthcare.

There are some rules for the sneaker drive:

As long as the integrity of the sneaker is intact, noticeable signs of use like dirt or stains are acceptable.

NO sneakers with holes, tears, or separated soles.

NO non-athletic footwear of any kind including but not limited to: dress shoes, heels, sandals, wedges, water socks, rain boots, crocs, and other non-athletic styles.

We have a tub by the front door ready to receive your old sneakers!

Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

Products

Did you know that Capital Quilts makes their own precuts? Sometimes we pick a collection, and sometimes we curate our own. They are ALWAYS die-cut and unpinked. What more could you ask for?

Goodnight Moon is a greatly beloved children's book by Margaret Wise Brown with delightful illustrations by Clement Hurd, and Cloud 9 Fabrics is lucky enough to be able to license Mr. Hurd's images for 14 bolts of fabric.

The free pattern for a playmat is cute and uses all the fabrics!

Do you use Electric Quilt 8? Do you also use AccuQuilt? Do you wish there was a way you could easily use them together? There is! We are pleased to introduce you to AccuQuilt add-ons for EQ8!

We've gotten in fabrics representing some of the military branches and some of the area NCAA schools.

(And Michigan, because that's "home" for me.)

Also from Cloud 9, we have two bolts from Bali Dreams.
And a blender to go with each!

Classes

WE ARE RESCHEDULING Quilts for Kids.

We'll let you know when the make-up session is.

Karen has offered to teach a special Valentine's Day class. Scheduling means that the class is happening on Saturday, 2/15. This is a great class if you avoid patterns with curves. Methods for fabric preparation, accurate cutting, pressing, handling, and accurate piecing of curves are demonstrated. The “kiss” block uses a traditional Drunkard’s Path (or quarter circle) block. This special occasion class includes the “kiss” block pattern and options for putting more “kisses” together into a larger quilt.

Please don't make us cancel this class! It's too stinkin' cute!

Grab a friend and sign up today!

February's Get it Done! is scheduled for 2/15. Come in for four blissful hours of distraction-free sewing. And, if you need a little help, Kat will be here to get you over those creative bumps in the road.

The next Getting Started: Longarm Rental takes place on 3/3. This is the class you need to learn the basics of running one of our longarms.

Getting Started: Pro-Stitcher (computerized stitching) Rental Class follows the Longarm Rental class, but requires a separate registration.

Linda is offering a Reversible Bucket Hat class on 4/12. In class you will have the option to cut out your fabric by hand, or you can use the Accuquilt die. The pattern is included with the class. Be warned: they're like potato chips. Once you make one...

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

For those who want to sew placemats for Meals on Wheels and/or Iona House from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern. We also have free kits in the shop.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
