What's New at CQ 2/18/2025

Dear Friends,

We have two classes in the works for scrapbusting! One uses 5" squares (1 charm pack and some background is all you need!); the other uses 4 1/2" squares and 2 1/2" squares. Elizabeth also has an Ikea bag knockoff pattern she wants to teach. Classes will be available for registration as soon as we get dates nailed down.

There is still time to cast your vote in the byAnnie.com Local Quilt Shop Contest. Voting officially ends on February 28 at 11:59pm Mountain time.

Melonee and I are taking an online class to brush up on our foundation piecing skills. What classes are you taking, or want to take?

ps. Our donation tub for old sneakers will be at the front door through the end of the month. Please be sure to follow the posted guidelines: sneakers ONLY, dirty is OK, ripped, holey, or soles coming off is not.

Quilt Labels for All Occasions wants you to commemorate your creations with a personalized label! This book features 60 iron-on transfers for the final detail to any quilting project.

The Log Cabin Quilt is as traditional as they come, but with a bit of imagination and the help of inspiring designers you can take the traditional and make it so much more. Everything you need is here, the patterns, the instructions and the designers' unique spin on the traditional with today's fantastic fabrics and techniques.

Quilters of all skill levels will enjoy making these tabletop projects. Most of them are quick & easy! They all (of course) use precuts to make the most of your sewing time.

Libs Elliott's Verdigris collection was a big hit, and we made some precuts: 2 1/2" strips and 5" charm squares, if you're interested. Die-cut & there are NO PINKED EDGES!

Classes

The next Getting Started: Longarm Rental takes place on 3/3 and again on 3/26. This is the class you need to learn the basics of running one of our longarms.

Getting Started: Pro-Stitcher (computerized stitching) Rental Class follows the Longarm Rental class, but requires a separate registration.

The Sew Together session for March is on the 7th. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos.

On 3/10, come in to help us make a Quilt of Valor. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy!

March's Get it Done! is scheduled for 3/15. Come in for four blissful hours of distraction-free sewing. And, if you need a little help, Kat will be here to get you over those creative bumps in the road.

Come in on 3/19 to work on Quilts for Kids. All fabric is provided. These quilts are donated to local kids in need. Lots of fun is always the rule in our free Capital Quilts workshops. Different patterns are used each month.

Linda's Reversible Bucket Hat class is full, but we'll ask her to have another in the near future.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

For those who want to sew placemats for Meals on Wheels and/or Iona House from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern. We also have free kits in the shop.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
