What's New at CQ 2/25/2025

Dear Friends,

Did you cast your vote in the byAnnie.com Local Quilt Shop Contest yet? Voting officially ends on February 28 (this Friday!) at 11:59pm Mountain time.

Is it time to have your machine serviced? It's been a long cold winter, and I hope you've spent it inside sewing. If you have, it's probably time to drop it off for regular maintenance. We've seen some really dirty machines!

Our techs will clean and lubricate your machine, check and adjust tension and timing, and test stitch in straight stitch, zig-zag, and reverse. Yes, there is a wait time involved, but we do have a loaner program if you don't have a backup and simply cannot live without a machine.

ps. Our donation tub for old sneakers will be at the front door through the end of the month. Please be sure to follow the posted guidelines: sneakers ONLY, dirty is OK, ripped, holey, or soles coming off is not.

Products

There's a new player in the Five Yard Quilt pattern game! Fabric Cafe has come out with a book and some patterns. We can't wait to start picking out fabric for them!

From Cloud 9 Fabrics, we have Ocean Motion. Imagine a perfect summer day on the beach - boats gliding on gentle waves, birds soaring through the salty breeze, sea horses dancing among swaying seaweed, colorful fishes darting through crystal clear waters and small crabs scuttling along sandy shores. Dive into this mesmerizing ocean world with our new summer collection created by RouCouCou.

The bubbles, fish, and sailboats are also available in organic canvas, perfect for Elizabeth's Big Show and Tell Tote (see below)!

Classes

The Sew Together session for March is on the 7th. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos.

On 3/10, come in to help us make a Quilt of Valor. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy!

March's Get it Done! is scheduled for 3/15. Come in for four blissful hours of distraction-free sewing. And, if you need a little help, Kat will be here to get you over those creative bumps in the road.

Come in on 3/19 to work on Quilts for Kids. All fabric is provided. These quilts are donated to local kids in need. Lots of fun is always the rule in our free Capital Quilts workshops. Different patterns are used each month.

Are you intimidated by binding?  Are you not able to do hand sewing?  Join us on 3/22 to learn an easy method of binding your quilt quickly with your machine.

Elizabeth has done it again! Inspired by the famous Ikea blue bag, she made her own Big Show and Tell Bag, and wants to teach you how to make it on 3/30. This is a roomy tote bag with 2 way handles to carry all your large quilty projects and treasured quilts. Minimal cutting and straight sewing. Fully lined, with no birthing!

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

For those who want to sew placemats for Meals on Wheels and/or Iona House from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern. We also have free kits in the shop.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
