What's New at CQ 3/4/25

Dear Friends,

Elizabeth's Big Show and Tell Tote is really amazing -- you could fit a small child in one! Seriously, if you ever transport quilts for show and tell, this is the bag you need! And, why not have one in fabrics and colors that YOU like? (Like the canvas we just got in.) Class is Sunday the 30th.

If you struggle with binding your quilts, please register for the Easy Machine Binding class. Cathy will show you how to easily attach binding to your quilt with your machine. The best part? You will work on a pre-quilted "quilt sandwich" that we provide, so you can practice before tackling your actual quilts.

I took Elizabeth's apron class recently, and another student loaned me her rotary cutter. I fell in love with it! What tools or tips have you discovered in a class?

-Marianne

ps. We will continue collecting old sneakers through the month of March. There is a tub just inside the front door for dropping them off. Please be sure to follow the posted guidelines: sneakers ONLY, dirty is OK, ripped, holey, or soles coming off is not.

Products

Wilmington Prints has sent us Morning Blooms by Danhui Nai, featuring flowers in soft purples and blues.

Wilmington also sent us this selection of blues and purples for our color wall. We can't get them together as one group, so just search the website using the provided fabric names.

We also have a new selection of Wilmington's White-On-White prints. They just don't take a good picture.

If you like charm packs like I like charm packs, you are going to LOVE this SEVENTY-SIX piece charm pack of Wilmington's Dry Brush. It has a linen-look texture colored to create the effect of painting with a “dry brush” – like canvas texture “showing through” – very versatile for all themes & especially perfect for landscape quilts.

Ramp up your bag-making with these "Handmade" labels from Sallie Tomato. Available in silver, gold, rose gold, antique gold, and gunmetal.

Classes

The Sew Together session for March is this Friday (the 7th). Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos.

On 3/10, come in to help us make a Quilt of Valor. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy!

March's Get it Done! is scheduled for 3/15. Come in for four blissful hours of distraction-free sewing. And, if you need a little help, Kat will be here to get you over those creative bumps in the road.

Come in on 3/19 to work on Quilts for Kids. All fabric is provided. These quilts are donated to local kids in need. Lots of fun is always the rule in our free Capital Quilts workshops. Different patterns are used each month.

Are you intimidated by binding?  Are you not able to do hand sewing?  Join us on 3/22 to learn an easy method of binding your quilt quickly with your machine.

Elizabeth has done it again! Inspired by the famous Ikea blue bag, she made her own Big Show and Tell Bag, and wants to teach you how to make it on 3/30. This is a roomy tote bag with 2 way handles to carry all your large quilty projects and treasured quilts. Minimal cutting and straight sewing. Fully lined, with no birthing!

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

For those who want to sew placemats for Meals on Wheels and/or Iona House from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern. We also have free kits in the shop.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
